re: Good areas to live in around DFW?

South of DFW is a good option: Mansfield.
Family centered, good schools, just out of the thick of DFW traffic, realistic real estate prices, good medical and dental care, shopping and restaurants abundant, growing, close enough to the two major metro airports - Love Field and DFW International. Here since 2019; good place to live, work, raise a family.

OP, I work in healthcare. Tell your wife to avoid Medical City at all costs. Understaffed, overworked, and everyone is miserable. It’s HCA rebranded. The money attracts people but don’t fall for it. BSW is a decent employer from what I can tell. Cook Childrens was recently rated as one of the best employers in the country for employee health. Figuring out where to live, especially in DFW, is a lot easier if you know where she will work first. Plano, Frisco, Grapevine, Colleyville, and Flower Mound are some of the more coveted areas with good ISDs. I would look at Grapevine personally as it’s probably more reasonably priced than the others. Mansfield and Burleson have more of a baw vibe if that’s your thing and are pretty affordable.

Any other good hospitals in the Grapevine/DFW area to look at?

Mansfield, Venus or Midlothian if you want some room and a central location for your drive. McKinney, Frisco or Allen if you must be on the East side. Anything West of Ft Worth is nice. The best quality of life is Southlake, Grapevine, N Irving and Coppell but it’s expensive to get a house.

Magnets are really hard to get into, especially of you're a new resident. They usually don't take new applications after New Years unless you know an employee with the district. OP is from Shreveport and hasn't bought a house or even accepted a job yet.
We’re a couple years away from having to start sending them to school. However, I’ve accepted my job offer; we’re working on hers now.

if I read correctly it’s not her who’s job is committed to Dallas, it’s what she wants (and we all know who wins that battle,) it’s he that will be driving for work
Correct

UT southwestern and Presbyterian are good in my experience.
I've also heard not so great things about Med City.
Nothing good/bad to share about Baylor, Scott & White

then I reiterate, you should expand the search/scope, consider Ft. Worth, you’ll be doing the driving, you can get to the area you described as where your work takes you easy enough

Thanks for the info. I'll be at least part time at some hospital in the area.

Gotcha, you could probably just rent a starter home in in a place like N. Dallas, Richardson, or Irving if you're worried then.

With them not in school yet, ret a house closer into the city and get the experience for a year or two. May be able to find something in the M-Streets or near White Rock Lake

We aren’t at that price range, yet.
They are starting to build some smaller homes out by us, they are packed in and you barely have a yard but they are almost affordable. May be an option until you get settled.
Look for Meritage Homes in whatever area ya'll decide
These are brand new just small
$405,9024 bd3 ba2 1,584 sqft

Yeah prosper/Aubrey/Anna and McKinney are great places to raise a family
Coworker bought in Aubrey and is ready to move after 6 months. 380 is a shitshow all the time with dozens of subdivisions popping up and only 380 to get out. Takes him 2+ hrs to get to work sometimes

If your wife chooses UTSW, i'd seriously consider Richardson. $450k will get you a nice ranch house. It won't be brand new, but the lots are big, mature trees, RISD is excellent. You're close to 75/635/DNT.
The Dart rail runs down 75. The city is older, but it's not rundown. Many great restaurants, bars, things to do etc.
Here are several homes in your budget

I read the first 3 pages and didn't notice anyone mention Flower Mound. That suburb gives you access to a recreational lake, nice parks, excellent hiking/mountain biking trails, plenty of real-estate below luxury prices, and a location between Dallas & Fort Worth & several great suburbs.
I expect Flower Mound to appreciate in value, and there are still new neighborhoods being built.
