Is it?

My preference is Golden Corral, but only once every few months. Don’t want to spoil everyone.

Just enjoy your early bird special. You'll be back home in time for Lawrence Welk.

I've never used those exact words, but have done this. No need to rush through dinner if you are enjoying good company.

my dad tries to order his meal the first time the waiter comes to the table, every damn time.
there is a flow to good service...drinks, then discuss the specials, ask questions if needed, etc

then order after the drinks come. It’s not a race.

I’ve learned to just roll with it

For example, your server brings the drinks and asks if you have any questions or know what you want for an appetizer. Most people say “I’m still looking.” Those who never eat out say “uh yeah we definitely need more time we just got here.”

I’ll say some riff on either one of these depending upon how pushy I feel the waiter is being in trying to rush me.

Plus she has celiacs, (yes diagnosed by gastroenterologist, not pretend) so it’s even more a pain. We stick to mostly Mexican places now

So, in order to avoid gastrointestinal distress you opt for food options that cause gastrointestinal distress?

Celiacs is not being able to eat wheat. Mexican places with corn tortillas and many options of wheat free. Same with steak houses

Before there was an Olive Garden in every suburban shopping mall going out was a bit more of a luxury and was more of an event even to those who did it more often than others. Since it’s been made for the masses most dining is more like fast food/quick service dining and has lost so much of it’s etiquette and formalities.

I’m not sure why people go out to eat anymore. Simply because they are hungry? Easy way to socialize? It appears to me that many of the reasons why we have full service restaurants are completely lost upon the people patronizing a full service restaurant.

Since your mommy and daddy are footing the bill, you should be a good boy and just concentrate on staying in the lines while using the complimentary crayons. Not everyone orders the chicken nuggets, Lil Johnny.

I kind of get what you’re saying, but you still sound like a douche.

A friend of mine is the worst offender of this, but not because he doesn’t eat out often. He just asks so many questions it’s actually comical. He couldn’t be nicer about it, he’s just very...thorough....when it comes to making a decision on the menu.

He ordered a grilled cheese one time, and just had to ask about each type of cheese that was on it, how “melty” they were, what type of bread it came on, etc.

Admit it. You're just bitter because their dessert pictures look better on Facebook than yours.

To the OPs point, I’ve had experiences with people like this. It’s not pleasant. And he’s right, some shite you just accept as part of the dining experience. But you do what you have to do and pray you never become “them”.
