Going on a Disney Cruise in December - am I going to hate it?

My parents are OT ballers. Every other year for Christmas they take my siblings and I on a vacation. This year we were supposed to do an Alaskan cruise, but my sister had twins and they cancelled the trip due to the crazy travel schedule with two very small children.

They now decided we would do a one week Disney Cruise. The travel is a lot easier and my parents don’t feel as bad about taking two small children on this type of cruise.

My wife and I (no kids) will obviously go, it’s a free cruise for us. As 28 year olds without kids, will there be plenty for us to do? Never been on a cruise before.

It’s a cruise. Go sit by the adult pool and put back some beers and you’ll have a great time

Ugh I’ll praise Disney cruises all day long but if you don’t have kids and aren’t going to see their reactions and interactions you may not have a great time. But there are adult areas and the shows are pretty great so you have that going.

Two small children on a cruise ship sounds like a specifically crafted hellscape

Eat, drink, and relax

There are adult only areas on the ship, both entertainment zones (bars) and pools. These areas are quiet but the nightlife wraps up early. The specialty restaurants are adult only and exceptional. THe shows are Disney, but they are Broadway quality and exceptional.

6 people for a 7 night Disney Cruise depending on stateroom will probably run about $20k.

As I said, this was rescheduled

Originally they were going to take us on a 10 day Alaskan cruise. That’s paying for flights and an Alaskan cruise for 8 people.

Two years ago they took us all to Hawaii.

Disney Cruise is definitely not the same but things changed in life that had to change the plans - which is why I’m asking about the cruise

Everything Disney does on the cruises is awesome. There’s a full size theater on the boat. And they make at least a couple of stops. Ours was Nassau and Castaway Cay, their private island. The island has an adult section if I’m remembering correctly. Plus there is a nursery and a kid zone you can check the kids into. At dinner they bring the kids meals out quickly then an employee comes to get them and let them play in the kid zone so the adults can enjoy dinner. We checked our infant into the nursery one day and took our daughter to the beach. Nursery rates are reasonable. Something like $7 an hour. Buy the beer package day one. It’s cheaper in the long run. And like several have said there are several adult sections on the boat. Bars mainly. We hung out in a couple of those on different days. Since you have no kids of your own to take you can just go chill on those when the boat is moving. We didn’t get off in the Bahamas and let the kids enjoy a mostly empty pool. I just didn’t feel like dealing with a stroller and getting out to see Nassau. Spent a week there on our honeymoon so I feel it’s probably the same as it was then, but there’s definitely plenty for adults to do.

A lot of truth in that. I've been on one cruise and it wasn't for me; wouldn't do another one, but glad I had the experience.

You are going on the equivalent of a Chucky cheese, a golden corral, and a blue bayou on a barge with Disney characters
