God almighty, customer service is horrible at Home Depot.

At least at the particular one I'm at.Im talking Walmart level incompetence.
Haven't been to one in months but I was a rather steady customer for 25+ years and almost always expirenced pretty good to excellent help. They seem to not care cause the place is packed. Unfortunately one of the downsides of a booming economy...they'll hire anyone who walks off the streets.

I was told that Home Depot just lets you steal stuff. If that's the case, don't worry about customer service.

You've obviously never purchased paint or literally anything in the lumber section of the Gonzales Lowes.

Their online ordering system is god awful too and doesn't sync up with the store's inventory system. Online it may say they have 5 refrigerators at a location, but the store will have 0.

I'd rather a close up of the one to her right.

You don't exactly get to be picky when hiring for retail.

I ordered a plane storage box online in the parking lot, walked in and walked out in 5 minutes

LOL!If I could ONLY find someone to acknowledge I'm in the store.
There are 4 "associates" at customer service who still can't figure out how returns work

They are the Atlanta Falcons of customer service

Their customer service is better than Lowe's. I've never had a problem asking questions at the Depot. At Lowe's I often feel like I've made and enemy - a mortal one at that - if I bother one of the employees. If I need help, I go to Home Depot. If I don't want to be bothered I go to Lowe's.

HD and Lowes just vary store to store and year to year.
I've found that when times are a little tougher the customer service is very high quality, likely because HD is an attractive placeholder when jobs get scarce. It's a good company and thus the people on the floor take it seriously and may well be overqualified.
When times are better, the quality of employees on average seems lower, and people are far less motivated to do a good job.

This.
Our frig went out. We get online to order a new one. Find one we like from HD. Order. Will be delivered in a week. OK we can make it a week without a main frig. Call us 2 days before delivery and tell us its not in inventory and on backorder. Going to be another 2 weeks. Like they didn't know that at the time of order. Cant cancel - would take as long from someone else anyway. They have us over a barrel. Jackasses.

Maybe not but they used to have somewhat older associates who were either retired or had some type of construction expirence and who actually GAS.
These people are McDonald's level.

I've never had any issues at the one in BR. An employee with downs once even helped me out with a gas hose connection

I go to the local hardware store. Probably pay more but the guys seem to know their stuff.

Also depends on when you go too. My Home Depot is great, with the same group of people working there for years but weekends and Monday mornings are the worst times to get help. If I know I need help finding something or need paint mixed, I'll go mid-week mornings and have no problems.
Our Lowe's is usually worthless no matter the time or day.

I agree. I needed some 8' bulbs a while back. They were high up so I needed an employee with a ladder.
After thirty minutes no one helped I did other shopping. Came back waited again, no one showed. I found one of their stairs and drug it to the light section, climbed up and got my bulbs.
Then wound up in a shouting match with an employee. I got my lights though but I had to check myself out.
Since then ive gone out my way to shop at Ace and True Value.

Learn to do shite on your own and only go the HD or Lowe’s for materials/tools/etc. Don’t think that the guy/kid working in Hardware knows shite about anything or how to do anything.
