There was a 9 yr period I didn't go to HD bc of their shitty CS...finally went back bc it was close. I haven't been really disappointed since.

I will tell you one of the funniest things I ever heard my Pops say. It happened to a poor, useless girl who happened to be working at Lowe's when we went in looking for staples. This girl came bouncing up with a smile and asked my dad, "Can I help you find something?" He told her what he needed and she gave him the most befuddled, lost look I have seen on a Lowe's employee before or since.
He then tried explaining that he was looking for hardware staples, the larger kind. She took him to an isle that had no kind of staple on it. He tried explaining one last time. Didn't work.
He said, "It's like talking to a fricking chicken!", and walked away from her in disgust.
I bit my cheek to keep from laughing. I had been in that position with him more than once. She got off light.

If customer service comes up to me and asks: "Sir, can I help you find something?"
My response is always "I've lost my marbles. Haven't seen them in years. Can you help?"
Yes, Dad type joke but I enjoy it.

I go to the local hardware store. Probably pay more but the guys seem to know their stuff.
I'm fortunate to have a small, local hardware store in my community. It's a little more expensive and they don't have everything (lumber for one). However, the same guys have been there for the 20 years I've been going there. They know exactly where everything is and can usually finish my sentences for me when telling them what I need.
I only go to the big box stores when I need something that my local guy doesn't have.

They have 2.83 stars for their average rating.

HD and Lowes just vary store to store and year to year.
Are you really surprised? It is entry level retail positions.
If you want expert help go to a small business that specializes in what you are looking for.

At least they have customer service regardless of how bad it is... I swear I was in Lowe's for 10 minutes and couldn't even find an employee.

Once again,I'm comparing their customer service to what it used to be for the multiple years Id gone there in the past.
It used to be much better. No idea why folks don't get this

I think it depends on thr quality of the community.
The Home Depot near the Woodlands. TX is outstanding. But if you try a Home Depot or Lowe's in a crummy community or neighborhood you get the local people.
Just like anything else.
Location, location.

Dude. Go to home Depot and hire someone for the job. They will be standing out front near the exit. Take a picture of what u want them to build and they will get the material for the job.
Amateurs.

Around Athens and also in Gwinnett, the Lowes are all superior. Also with Lowes I can go online on my phone in the store, find something, and it tells me exactly where it is in the store. That way I can avoid human contact as much as possible.

I ordered a plane storage box online in the parking lot, walked in and walked out in 5 minutes
I usually have to pick those up at a hangar out at the airport.

I shop HD. From what I understand, your money goes out of the country from Lowes... ..as majority holdings are somewhere in Northern Europe...Sweden maybe?

.....they have customer service at HD?

Their store managers get bonus checks based on how much they save the store in operations cost. The biggest operational expense? Personnel.

I went and bought 2 pallets of 80lb concrete and they told me it would be $8 if I took the pallet. I said that fine y’all can stack it off.....Needless to say, i left with the pallets

Depends on the store. The Lowe's I go to is way better than the local HD.
