God damn man, some people need a little
Help given the circumstances. I don’t give a shite if i get money or don't. But a lot of people are out of work right now. Let’s help them out a little if we can.

is planting the seeds to become a socialist hellhole.
A non-contingent cash payment is arguably counter to socialism.

Besides, this would be an emergency payment that is compensation for the impact of government’s response to an emergency which itself is fundamentally different than any other form of payment and/or welfare.

But even something like a Universal Basic Income, which is some respects similar to this (in that it’s a direct cash payment) but fundamentally different (in that it’s not an emergency response government actions) has been advocated by both Milton Friedman (an advisor to both Reagan and Thatcher) and Friedrich Hayek (who greatly influenced libertarianism). And they are both about as far from socialists as you can get.

It's shocking to me that more people don't seem to have any money saved in case of a rough patch. A several week long layoff is going to bankrupt the average person?

Then you're either blind or stupid. The places that hire the vast majority of working class americans(retail, restaurants, airports, grocery stores, factories etc) dont pay a living wage much less a "have $ for a rough patch" wage

As a capitalist and an individual income tax opponent, I can say I have absolutely no problems if they give me back $1000 or two from the $20,000+ I was forced to give them in Federal taxes last year.

Can you imagine working in NYC as a family making $200,000?

That’s equivalent to $105,000 in Lake Charles.

You get nothing.

Single making $74,000 in Lake Charles gets a rebate.

Single making the equivalent in NYC? $136,000 gets absolute $0.

This isn’t going to help as many people in the urban areas as they pretend.
