That’s because the education system has been telling girls for the last 40 years that they can do anything, and telling boys that they should save their money and go to trade school.

When I taught, girls, regardless of race, were the best students. Did all the assignments and then some. The boys had more intellectual curiosity though.

Because we live in an anti-intellectual society now. Bubbas teach their sons that it's manly to not know how to read. Girls are dumber too, but they're more likely to give in to authority figures and do their work. Results - Donald Trump is our president and our children fall further and further behind in education compared to the world leaders.

Truth of the matter is school now a days is more about following instructions and memorization than understanding broader concepts and ideas. Females are much better at following instructions and memorization than makes.

Despite having a ton of white males in our AP classes and the like, who went on to legit colleges, none of them ever challenged for the very top of the class. It was entirely minority guys (Asian/Indian/Middle Eastern in our case) and girls. FWIW we had very few minorities overall.
The same was generally true in college, although I saw it change a lot at the grad/professional school level. Which makes sense, because small swings in GPA don't matter very much for most people at the HS/undergrad level. For professional schools, good MBA programs, etc., class placement and GPA actually matter and have $$$ significance. Hence, normal dudes begin to care. That's why "grades are irrelevant" is often true, but there are big caveats.

When I was in school, most of the girls who had straight A's just grinded their asses off.
Maybe parents are more strict with their daughters and also don't give them a long leash to frick around all over town as early as early as boy's parents?
I realize this is anecdotal but the REALLY smart guys in my classes never seemed to give a shite and would glide to a ~3.5 with little effort, while the girls with straight A's looked like they were white knuckling pencils with bloodshot eyes all the time.

No, we live in a hyper-pseudo-intellectualized society in many ways. Kids can graduate from elite universities and grad schools without having learned...anything. They'll graduate self loathing and be able to recite tomes about intersectionalism as the last defense to authoritarianism and extol the virtues of Thomas Piketty, but yet they can't pick out the Axis powers from a multiple choice question and don't know what GDP stands for.
