You can deny somebody. Don’t know if it’s legal though.
I was working as a server at 17 and a dad was sharing a pitcher of beer with his underaged son and I didn’t want to serve them because I didn’t know the legality.
My boss said I was fine not to. The establishment has the right to not serve alcohol. This was 15 years ago.

but has anyone ever had a similar situation and if so what did you do?
Not entirely similar, but I did have a restaurant bartender refuse to serve me once because my DL had expired the day before. I explained to him that I had until the end of the month to renew it. He said that wasn't the case in that state. I was in my 30's, btw.
So, I walked across the parking lot back to the hotel bar and bought a bunch of drinks from someone who wasn't a dick.

I was at a liquor store in Tennessee years ago and this old man who must’ve been in his 60s was denied beer bc he didn’t have his ID him. He just stared at the cashier incredulously and said “do I look like I’m under 21?” He had total gray hair and thick beard. It was absurd.

Frankly, it's debatable which of you sucks worse. Probably you, since I've never seen him mention his cats.

Quite possibly the dumbest thing and waste of time. No matter the situation, the person will just go down the road (like you did) and buy it from the next store while the under age person sits in the car. This happened to me in college. I laughed at the cashier.

Lemme guess, you weren't a math major, probably not an English major either.

Happened to me while at LSU. And it was Walmart on highland.
Friend was of age and purchasing the alcohol. They asked for my id and proceeded to not sell the alcohol. We drove down to Winn Dixie on Burbank and bought our beer.

You’re really not good at math at all, are you? My wife is 40 and we have an 18 year old. I’m guessing she was 15 in your world when she had her?

Yeah I’ve had cashiers deny me alcohol. The manager would override them.

This person didn't have time to deal with the situation and went to the store down the road to buy the alcohol with no problem.
Were you the mother???

They probably saw how disgustingly drunk you already were and shut you down. Just be lucky the Walmart police didn’t arrest you

Not to me, but yes I’ve heard similar stories at Walmart
Happened to my sister in law and niece (no pics). SIL was picking up online order and had her ID. Showed it to Walmart lady.
Niece was well over 18 and was asked for ID (which she did not have with her even though sister in law was purchasing.)
Walmart employee would not sell them a bottle of wine along with bags of groceries.

If I said "a friend" then people will say "you made it up because you don't have any friends".. So I will just tell it like a story.

It's a legitimate question posed by the poster OweO. He tries to bring light and hope to this board but just gets shite on in the process. It's time to lighten up on him and give him his due as a poster.

Walmart does this crap all the time.
It's funny they'll sell syringes though when other pharmacies won't.

Moral of the story: Don’t shop at Walmart.

I had it happen to me at a Circle K. They are 100% ID check.
I was a little too irate about it.
