Your inspection sticker has 30 day grace period. I think your DL is no longer a valid ID when it expires. BR city cop told me that about the ID. It has an expiration date on it. Not a last day if month stamped.

That shite annoys me. You're ID expires so now you can't drink?
I can see getting a ticket for driving on it, but I don't revert back to a kid because my ID is expired.

Florida is really strict about this, even if both people at the register are clearly over 21.

When the lady was checking out the cashier asked to see her ID. This lady is in her late 30s. Her daughter was with her and the cashier asked to see the daughter's ID. When she saw she was 17 the cashier told the mother she wouldn't sell her the alcohol.
You're lying through your teeth.

I had a similar thing happen to me years ago at Walmart. My son was about 12 and this particular time, his friend who was about 15 or 16 had tagged along to the store. I was buying stuff to grill burgers along with a 12 pack of beer. The lady wouldn't sell me the beer because I had a minor with me. What kind of crap is that? I had been in plenty of times with just my son and bought it.

This thread is terrible and you should feel bad.

I was at a liquor store in Tennessee years ago and this old man who must’ve been in his 60s was denied beer bc he didn’t have his ID him. He just stared at the cashier incredulously and said “do I look like I’m under 21?” He had total gray hair and thick beard. It was absurd.
Tennessee checks everyone’s ID with no exceptions.

Chris is full of shite as this never happened nor did a friend of his tell him this long winded story.
That said, I've been denied alcohol before over not having an ID on me while my GF was buying and seen it happen to several other people as well. It's not uncommon outside of LA

I’ve had that happen to me at a restaurant before. We had someone under 21 at the table and they refused to sell alcohol to us.

We went to the beach when I was 15 and my brother was 13. We always do a big grocery trip when we arrive in town. Beer was at the end of the belt after all the groceries so it was pretty obvious we were just a family, not someone pulling a hey mister. Store wouldn’t sell my dad the beer because we didn’t have IDs (we were too young to even own IDs).
I wonder what the age is where they begin pull this on parents. I assume they’re not asking 6 year olds for ID.

That is ridiculous. A few things on this matter as a restaurant manager:
The law states you must have a valid ID on you to purchase alcohol. Doesn't matter if you're 80 years old. Do not expect a business to put it's license on the line for your $5-$10 drink. Same can be said for the employee. If they lose their Responsible Vendor's permit and their parish permit to sell alcohol they cannot even ring up groceries at Wal Mart. As far as a parent purchasing for a minor, we choose as a company to not participate in that. First, right to refuse service. Second, I don't trust you to not get your 15 year old son drunk and have every guest in my place wondering why a 15 year old is drunk. I've seen it happen at places that allow this and it looks terrible on the business. Take your kid home to drink. That being said, I do not see why you can't purchase packaged alcohol with a minor present. Sell to the person of legal age and let the move on.

It's happened to my husband and kids at Walmart. I don't buy alcohol at Walmart anymore because it's absurd.

In Louisiana a parent can legally purchase alcohol for their children (I think this might apply to being in a bar. At 18 you can enter a bar, but can't drink unless it's purchased by a parent).
Is this the law in Louisiana? I've been telling my 20 year old daughter that she can't come see my band play when we are at bars. But she technically could?

I'm pretty sure that used to be the law but it was changed around 2012
ETA- changed as in no longer legal

I’m not sure where you live but if you’re in BR and your daughter is 20, she probably already goes to bars. We have plenty of 18+ places.
She hasn’t said anything about that when you’ve told her you don’t think she can come?

She probably could not even gain entrance. At the end of the day the establishment still has the right to refuse service. Another angle on this law people do not look at it is that your ID is not enough to say you are the parent/legal guardian. Just because you have the same name an address does not mean you are the person who can purchase alcohol. My brother is a good 20 years older than me. He could have passed for the part but not been the party that can legal purchase. If something happened, say in a restaurant, and the police were called the business might have a problem. I do not think anyone would actually nail their arse to the wall in that situation, but I would not risk it.
