Wunderbar

quote:

An auto club in Germany that claims 21 million members ran some controlled charging test electric vehicles to see how efficient that process was. The results put another nail in the value coffin. Not only are they expensive to buy and own, but the average charge also wastes up to 13% of the electricity.

Put another way, the consumer is charged for all the electricity required to fully charge the battery, which is as much as 13% more than the battery can hold.

So, imagine pouring two gallons of gasoline on the ground every time you filled a 20-gallon tank. People would lose their collective minds. But that will be standard for every charge of every vehicle in the utopian electric fleet of the future.

We going to start selling 40s of gasoline?

Spill one out for your homies before you fill the tank?

Anyone who has owned anything with a rechargeable battery knows this is true. It's not like it is a mystery this happens. Again, that's why forcing electric down people's throats before legit progress is made in technology is really dumb.

This boards obsession with hoping EV's fail is weird. I have no interest in an EV at this point, but I also couldn't care less what my vehicle uses for energy as long as it gets me where I want to go.

So...you can choose losing 13% charging in an EV, or 40-60% in heat and friction loss with an ICE.

People having the option of an EV is fine.

Trying to mandate EVs is fricking stupid because it does NOT work out well for day to day American life unless you live in one of a few huge cities.

We are real time living through another mass delusion with these vehicles and I admit it bothers me.

Long term no one wants it to fail. The point is we know and they know we are not ready for this. But they don't care, they want it now and that is going to cost all of us a lot of money and that pisses people off.

I can’t believe I’m agreeing with Mingo on something.

Wild to see how many oil and gas baws are suddenly tree huggers when it comes to the amount of energy electric cars use and the process to build the batteries.

The sales pitch on EVs is that they are good for the environment and save energy and so forth.

O and G baws are pointing out the holes in that argument.

Pointing out how inefficient something is that is being sold on efficiency is effectively calling bullshite on the whole process. And rightly so.

Then why are you telling us instead of the lawmakers. It’s the same threads here every day.

13% seems high but I only know data from Tesla that’s more like 9%. I’m sure some of the shittier EVs have worse conversion, management and control losses.

Get ready to lose your mind, because when you burn 20 gallons in an ICE it's like pouring 13 of them on the ground.
