Georgia woman jailed for Facebook post venting about ex-husband
quote:

A Georgia woman reportedly was jailed after her ex-husband, a police officer, allegedly was upset after she vented on Facebook that he didn’t get their sick son medicine.

Corey said he was too busy to do so, so Anne took to Facebook to vent her frustration.

"That moment when everyone in your house has the flu and you ask your kid's dad to get them (not me) more Motrin and Tylenol and he refuses,” Anne reportedly wrote, adding that she was “feeling overwhelmed.”

A friend of Anne’s commented on the post, calling her ex-husband a “POS” and urged her “to pick up the slack” by grabbing the medicine herself.

quote:

Corey reportedly demanded his ex-wife remove the Facebook post, which she did. Days later, both Anne and her friend who wrote the derogatory comment, Susan Hines, were charged with criminal defamation of character — which was ruled unconstitutional in Georgia in 1982.

When Hines, at a magistrate hearing, brought up her First Amendment right, Judge Ralph Todd reportedly told her: “You can call Mr. King a piece of (expletive) to his face. You can even tell someone else you think he is a piece of (expletive). But you can’t post it out for the public to see. That’s defamation of character.”

When Anne’s case went to a state court judge, he reportedly told her: “I don’t even know why you’re here.”

I hope this POS "dad" does jail-time and is found guilty of depriving her of her Constitutional rights.

Remember when the Internet "wasn't real" and everyone understood not to take anything serious? It was all to be taken as bull shite fantasy. Now you have people hanging them selves over being trolled and people being thrown in jail for talking shite. Wtf. 10/15 years ago if you let someone troll you and you got offended on a message board you were shamed from the site. Now it's like "please arrest him...he called my mother a whore and said he wanted to fight me!"

Not defending the guy but you have to note that the mother didn’t “have time” to get medicine for her kids but did have time to post on FaceBook about her ex not doing it. I can see why he divorced her.

And frick both of those shitty parents. I am sure your divorced parents arresting and suing each other is going to result in some really well adjusted kids.

Well, it sounds like they had the flu. So either load them up sick and go to the store, or leave them home alone sick. If my son had the flu, I'd make time to get him medicine, regardless of my schedule.

If venting about exes being bad parents on Facebook will land you in jail, a solid 60% of my friends list should be locked up.

He's a deputy. How could someone so sensitive be in law enforcement?

She got off lightly

(Eta, just in case my internet comment is taken too seriously, this is a joke. But sentences that start with "that moment" make my skin crawl. Those poor children--the flu is the least of their problems.)

Another woman running her mouth on Facebook? Shocked I tell you! There was a time when family matters were handled privately.
