I hope this is sarcasm.

There are a lot of liberals who post here. The downvoters are just mad their fellow democrat voters lost their food stamps and might have to get jobs.

This democrat doesn't like abuse of the system. Most likeminded folks feel that same. It's a safety net that shouldn't be abused. Our differences come in determining what is, and isn't, abuse. The folks Governor Deal targeted are clearly abusive of the system.

I see you've never worked in a grocery store in a poorer part of town.

And race has little to do with it.

ETA: The only thing that's abused more is SSDI.

The man is in danger of a vasectomy only if the chick can name him (she gets one chance to name daddy) or if he can't support the child. If you can't support a child, wrap it up or stay out of my pocket. Of course you guys and gals that want to support them are always free to set up your own fund, but that's not how it works is it? You tyrants want to dictate that responsible working people cover the cost of fools.

Would be willing to bet that it cost more to figure out the 8000 than pay them for 3 years.

That being said, I think it’s for the best down the road. Encouraging people to be self-sufficient if possible

Cutting some welfare costs and building a 15 billion dollar wall seem like opposing ideals

Building the wall will save us well over 15 billion in welfare cost in the long run. At least 400k entered the country illegally AT THE BORDER last year alone. I'm sure we aren't housing any of them or schooling any of their kids.

Has anybody sent out a survey yet to find out if the 8,000 are hungry enough to expend any effort to feed themselves yet?

Once they start working, they will feel a sense of pride and self-worth, caused by not being a burden on others anymore. We owe this to them, allowing them to pick themselves up.

They'll thank us later.

It's sad that this has to be explained to people.

Even the politicians know a proper wall would prevent a majority of illegal immigration. They just oppose it to appeal to their base.

Because people act as if this is a real win. Corporate well-fair is creates a far greater burden than food stamps but whatever. No fiscal conservative will ever speak to this let alone do anything about it.

*welfare

I “spoke to it” in this very thread.

Take note Louisiana.

Will never happen.

Why? Because if there was a huge cut in the number of people who can no longer receive food stamps, that would impact sells from all the places that do accept food stamps.

And I am sure there are connected people who own places that accept food stamps and that wouldn't be good for business.

I am not sure how this could be done, but I wish there was a way to monitor people who do receive food stamps to see who they are living with because their are single people who qualify for food stamps, but live with someone who makes a pretty good living. If you look at that person you would never imagine they are on food stamps, but they will go grocery shopping and use their food stamps with pride.
