This fella right here is their target:

quote:

That's a damn good-looking car. I've driven nothing but Nissans and Hondas (cars are really just a means of getting from point A to B for me, as long as it's efficient, reliable, and has a good sound system I'm fine), but this looks nice. Maybe I'll change it up and break out of the Japa

He values reliability, but wants some something cool-looking. He has no preconceived notions about German superiority and doesn't care all that much about brand-image.

In other words, he's pretty smart.

As far as resale goes. Genesis G80/90 seem to hold their value pretty well. Especially since Genesis has one of the best warranties in the business.

I've seen some extremely affordable lower model Genesis, like $15k with under 50k miles. I can't remember how much they were new, but I was looking for a lightly used Sedan around a year ago and got very interested in a Genesis. A better deal showed up though on an Infiniti.

I'm not sure there is a huge market for another high end vehicle. I feel like even Lexus is not longer what it used to be. There can only be so many status symbols.

But, Genesis could very well pump out some great cars at good values that people that don't care about status symbols will buy.

When the top of the line Hyundai first came out it was the $80,000 hyundai.
I haven't looked at prices

It was kind of the same deal when Lexus and Infiniti got started.

The Lexus especially was straight-up bulletproof, but it wasn't a BMW or M-B, so some people looked down their nose at them. They had plenty of time to do that while sitting at the dealership waiting for their BMW or M-B to get fixed.

You can get a 5.0L V8 that puts out 420HP in that car. I know someone with one and he said it has some serious "get-up". He loves the car.

I didn’t know they actually branched off to their own brand.

Genesis Motors is the luxury division of Hyundai, just like Lexus is under Toyota.

Not knowing Genesis was it’s own brand, I’ve seen some on the road and thought they must be Bentley’s due to the logo.

First, I want you to know that I upvoted you here. This is a good question.

The Genesis G80 has the highest predicted residual value in its class.

He's spending $80k on a depreciating asset.

The Hyundai Genesis sedans have been quite good but the market just wouldn't buy a luxury "Hyundai"

I almost bought a used Equus last year (now referred to as the Genesis G90). It was a freaking awesome car. Wound up getting a Lexus instead. I still think I would have been happy with the Equus.

True, but at least it isn't $100K.

Bought a 2015 Equus a couple of months ago. Still has 2 years of warranty left.

80% of an S-Class Mercedes at less than half the price... quite frankly, it was about the same price as a new mid-level Accord.

Well, German cars are superior...and vastly so.

I agree with you, but it depends on what you want out of a car.

Some people are going to value reliability and a great stereo over handling and the best straight six on the planet.

No doubt, Lexus made BMW better.

Judging by the video for their top of the line Genesis it is less than 80% just when it comes to power.

My brother bought a genesis when they first came out he works for hyundia. he drove it about three years and then my dad bought it from him. He still drives it. That first one now has like close to 300k miles and still running great. My brother bought a new one about a month ago got the sport one it is quick and very comfortable. His wife likes it much better than the Tahoe she had before. It looks way better than the first one but that v8 in the first one has lasted forever. This new has a turbo motor not sure of the size of it.

Unfortunately brand image directly correlates to resale value. Depending on how long you plan to drive the car, uncertainty of an up and comer can be a factor due to resale likely being lower than established brands.

It's amazing how far they've come. I worked with used car dealers in the 90's. They couldn't move a Hyandai, or a Kia off their lots back then. They got them really cheap, but they'd sit out there for months.
