the idiots at the store shouldnt be taking them back since putting oil and gas in it voids the warranty
What they should be doing is turning over the names of these people to FEMA to see if they defrauded the government out of $800.

They weren’t returns. I can promise you that
Then your promises aren't worth crap. They were returns that the manufacture is taking back. Some are legit returns, but most are POS people returning for a refund.

I hope they don’t stock them next time jack assses so that’s fraud if they got a reimbursement. No sympathy for your trashy arse people

I did this with an AC when ours went out in our house.
It was 105 outside so I went to Walmart and bought a window unit, it cooled the inside down to 78 or so.
Once we got he central unit fixed I boxed the window unit up and returned it for 100% refund

Hmm. Lowe’s had non returnable signs on their generators. I wonder if that was enforceable
Home Depot clearly said none before 30 days on the receipt.

HD has a 30 day return policy, I know because I returned one. Ryobi inverter that I bought two days before Ida. Worked great for about a day and 1/2 then started have horrible surging issue and couldn’t pull 400w load.
Out of power for 8 days and I spent hours and hours working on that POS to try and get it running. It cost $700, so I took it back.
My $400 champion gen from 2016 was a beast. It ran non stop for two weeks.

Yes for cash back, but for engine failure they will gladly swap it out for another one.
The one I purchased for my 30 days in the dark from Lowe’s a few weeks ago actually had some Home Depot signage in the shrink wrap.
So no telling where these generators come from and where they are stored before getting to your store.
They could have been brought to another store then shipped back to the manufacturer and then shipped to another chain.

Haven't read through every message so this may have been posted already but both Lowes and Home Depot had signs saying something along the lines of "Generator returns allowed within 30 days of purchase and only if box has been unopened"

Do what?

Be willing to bet that a large portion of these people who return things like this for each catastrophic event are only doing so because they see other folks doing it and getting away with it. This type of mentality is contagious but has to stop! The same folks who bitch about folks depending on the government for everything are doing it, too. They just don't say so.

They typically don't let you return them once you put gas in them.

But what if you put gas and oil in one, and then it doesn’t start? There should be some protection for buying faulty equipment.

Well a lot of them have made a fortune sitting at home for the past 18 months

I doubt it. They are living the same life they always did. Maybe with a new xbox or ps5 and more doordash than mcdonalds in their belly

I didn't say that was untrue. Just that there is no excuse not to have some money saved when you got a raise to sit at home.

You deal with the manufacturer directly. Yes it’s slower and harder, but due to people buying and returning like this that’s how it works.
Same thing with pressure washers, chain saws, etc.
