Do what?

Apparently using it voids the warranty haha

Well, HD can't sell the returned generators and give the new customer the same warranty if there was oil and gas put in. If they return it like that, then yes the warranty would be voided.

good PR, and a cost of doing bidness

I worked at Sears years ago and you can't imagine some of the stuff people would bring back for a refund.
A guy brought back a table saw that looked like it had been left outside for a couple years, Rusted, pieces missing and of course, no receipt. Told him I couldn't grant his request for money back because of the condition. He asked for the store manager and 20 minutes later he strolled past us waving his credit back receipt.
Satisfaction Guaranteed made them a lot of money, but it also took some of it back too.

it sticks with me, that's the one thing about Sears that I was always impressed with, they know some trashies are going to game the system but in the long run it builds customer loyalty

Home Depot is stupid for taking returns if they have been used, that will be a big loss of money.

good PR, and a cost of doing bidness, just like paying an ad company

That's only good pr for the trashy folks who haven't yet learned they can return their generators. These aren't the people spending thousands at hardware stores in the first place. This isn't going to mean anything to the big spenders or the average Joe's that plan ahead and keep their generators. I'm not seeing this PR angle paying off well for them. It's good if it's for prematurely malfunctioning machines, but that doesn't seem like it's the main reason here.

We took back a lot of tools that were obviously abused, no questioned asked. The sticking point was when it came to replacing the tool. Some wanted cash instead of a new tool and it was pretty obvious why they wanted the money.

What the F was I going to do with a window unit after the central air was fixed ?

Sale it ?

I did, sold it back to Walmart.

I figured since I spend about $500.00 in their stores a month they could loan me an AC for a few days.

yes, due to epa restrictions they cannot accept back or attempt to resell items that have oil and gas put in them because that can never be 100% removed. read the warranty card or label, it says that right on it

that in no way Voids the warranty, it changes the replacement procedure

Why? Why wouldn’t you hold onto it until the next storm? We do live in south LA, hurricanes aren’t uncommon.

Sounds like the government paid for most of them.

They can buy you another one for the next storm.

Do you mean it’s voided if returned and resold? What good is a warranty if it’s voided the second it’s used

Sounds about right. Are you gonna return the tire once you fix the flat on your trailer too?

Be sure to throw that McDonald’s bag out the window in the Walmart parking lot on your way out. Cover all the trashy tasks for the day.
