Mississippi called it TAG, Talented and Gifted. I was in that until we moved to Alabama, and I forget what they called it, but it wasn't GATES or TAG. I think once or twice a week we went to a different classroom for a couple of periods and did something besides your normal class work. I seem to remember little projects, like building a bridge out of popsicle sticks, and doing various science experiments. It ended in middle school though, once you got to High School you just took Honors or Advanced classes in your main subjects, and AP if you were a Jr or Sr and wanted to.

Do people with brown eyes even have souls?

It was TAG for us. I was in it from 2nd grade through 8th grade. The stuff they describe like weird memory games, pink lemonade in plastic cups, near death experiences, and blue and hazel eyes are 100% accurate. Most of my fellow TAG classmates went on to have really tragic lives or had to overcome really serious mental health problems to be successful. Several are dead, in prison, multiple stints in the wacko basket, suicidal tendencies, or just completely burnt out and become recluses or failures.

What happened to me being a nerd was after 3rd Grade at Jefferson Terrace I was sent to the hood for 4th-8th grades. I went to Buchanan Elementary for 4th and 5th Then McKinley Middle Magnet for 6th-8th.

Lafayette was similar. The middle school gifted program was at Paul Breaux. It was an interesting time for sure.

2nd thru 12th grade

in kindergarten and 1st grade I disrespected the teachers so much they would move my desk next to theirs away from all the other kids

it was called Gifted & Talented

We did a bunch of logic games and then from middle school onward it was G/T English and then AP English.

I’m not convinced those IQ tests are even accurate. Supposedly I was like 142 or something yet I flunked out of chemical engineering and ended up driving trucks.

So clearly someone is bullshitting

Oh I agree

I tested at 132 back then. School was super easy for me until college. Never having to study in K-12 screwed me when it came to college. I still got a degree, but definitely underachieved.

my grandpa tried to get me tested for that sort of stuff but all I heard was it made you have more homework so I tanked on the test.

6th grade teachers tried to get me to join the GATE club.
I was reading at high school level, so they figured I had a chance.
I screwed up a speech presentation by not studying my lines. Wasn't interested.
I was happier being the class clown by speaking out in class.

Thinking back, I should've went for it and got into politics to make some real money.

I was gifted and talented (GT). Only thing that applies is the IQ and c-section. I mean GT was for smarter kids, so it's not a strange thing to see that is a common thing. And it's not like c-sections aren't very common.

Blue eyes check

WTF is an occipetal bun

No birth complications AFAIK

No NDE

I remember GATE well. It was mostly bullshite but a way to get out of regular classes so it was alright

Don't know my IQ. It was never told to me.

Not a drug user.

If this is supposed to be some kind of conspiracy OP is barking up the wrong tree. It was trendy in education for a while to separate out the smart kids and give them extra enrichment. Maybe it was a good thing, maybe not. IDK. But there wasn't anything nefarious about it.

OTOH my spouse went to Ben Franklin, which was a whole school full of gifted kids. Several of her classmates became world renowned in their fields. One is literally an international household name. A few others OD'd, became homeless, or came to other bad ends. Seems like you either made it big or flamed out.

I was very gifted. They even let me take a bus for the gifted. It was shorter than the other buses.

For some reason my mom kept my Wechsler score that got me into it, so I still have that.

A different kind of measuring contest for the OT.

We had target.

And yes I was in it.

quote:

In elementary school, students attend Target as a pullout program one day each week. The program is designed to meet the very specific needs of these students and extend competencies in the areas of cognitive skills, learning skills, research and reference skills, communication skills, and metacognitive skills beyond the experience of the regular classroom.

It wasnt a thing in middle school but they had whole classes that were just the accelerated classes. I tested out of reading and was able to go straight into foreign language at a younger age, same with algebra.

And then in hs you were in honors and ap classes. So in hs I’m taking calculus and AP statistics and AP Spanish.

It was called GT, Gifted and Talented, and none of the people in it with Scruffy had any of those characteristics, except for IQ and eye color.
