He made a great shot. Could have easily hit the innocent cop right next to him if he was a little off.

Actually doing what very few who come on here and brag they would do in real life. The man was a hero!

Why would he want to shoot the cop? He was going after the pedophile.

The only thing that sucks about how he took out that piece of shite is it was instant. One second he’s walking down the concourse the next second he’s dead before he even hits the floor. He should have suffered. Gary was too good of a shot.

True, but to be fair he put it right up to that dude's head.

I'm here...but I do have something to share.

A lot of people remember watching the news that night and some were not born yet and have only seen the footage. I have the unedited version on my website.

I guess about a year ago I discovered on YouTube video footage of the news broadcast from March 16, 1984.

The police had yet to notify my mother. She found out when the tease to the 10 o'clock news said, "Unknown assailant guns down alleged kidnapper...details at 10pm"

There should be a shrine to Gary at BTR near where those phones were.

A lot easier to get in position to execute his plan than it would have been today
I'm sure Baton Rouge airport security changed a lot after that incident especially with transporting criminals like that.

Damn.

You don't have to share too many details, but how did your parents deal with that in the years afterwards?

That may be the only video of someone getting legit whacked that will ever be allowed on this site. Rightfully so, everyone should see it.

My parents were separated at the time due to my dad's drinking. They eventually got back together because part of his probation stipulated that he could not drink.

They split up again (never divorced) in 1991 because once my dad finished probation...he went back to drinking.

Mike Barnett was one of the detectives escorting him. Mike said his ears rang for a long time after that 357 going off right by his head. My dad said Gary had the balls to do what most men wouldn't and wanted to see him go free. He donated to Gary's legal defense fund.
