Doesn't seem like a good recipe to live.

The falls are named after a Cherokee woman who, according to local legend, jumped from the 90-foot falls to avoid a forced marriage.
She must have been gorgeous.

Fort Payne with Little River Canyon is a beautiful area.
There are gems like LRC all over the state.
Im about a 20 min drive from Mt Cheaha and Bald Rock is one of my favorite places to just go chill after hiking the trails in the park.

I thought Goodyear shut that down. Did it reopen?

I grew up in Gadsden, hoping I don't know either of the passengers.
Info on the deceased:

The Etowah County Assistant Coroner Dantez Robinson identified the man as 36-year-old Corey Perez Green.
The section by that fence will be renamed Green Falls.

Some logistics company bought it a few years ago. Not sure if they are up and running yet or what, but they had a pretty decent fire there in December.

Look at all the Gadsden OTers coming out. My entire paternal side are Emma Sansom alum. Most now reside in Whorton Bend area including waterfront on the Coosa. I learned to hunt on Lookout Mountain and what is now Noccalula Park.

It is such a depressing town to drive theough.
Why?
I’ve only driven through that area on I-59, so I don’t know.

There are always a few that will make a negative comment about any place with no basis. I ventured off I-59 last time I drove through and found the downtown area nice. There were a lot of recreational boats downtown and people all over the place enjoying the water.

Cue most Louisiana people that have no clue there are hills in Alabama
Scruffy’s grandpa lived in Birmingham and his driveway was a steep arse decline.
Lot of fun as a kid.

Gadsden is one of those towns that could be really cool with a little effort. Think politics holds it back more than anything else.

Gadsden actually had a really fantastic Louisiana restaurant there called Nola on 2nd but unfortunately it’s now closed.
ETA: it looks like they combined that restaurant with the Irish restaurant after the owner died. It’s called Nola’s Clover now.

There is like 4 or 5 blocks in downtown that have good restaurants and some nightlife. They do put on a nice fireworks show on the water for the 4th.
The main route from where I live is US431N. When you get to the southern outskirts of Gadsden, it is such a shock from rural countryside to almost urban decay. There are so many old and closed down shops and strip malls. Then you hit the Goodyear plant that sat empty for so long and it just reminds you what it once was. Shortly after you pass the old Goodyear plant, the county jail rises up above everything and is the newest structure in that area of town. They filmed one of those A&E Jail shows there. It is just gas stations you wouldn't want to stop at, shuttered businesses and fast food. I will grant the downtown area with the hospital, community college and some nicer restaurants is fine. But that stretch of US431 all the way through that corridor of Gadsden is pretty shitty. It reminds me a lot of Montgomery.
