I was telling a story of my buddy who has coonass tattooed on the inside of his lip. His last name ends in eaux and he can trace his heritage pretty far back.

Well this flight attendant I told the story to looked like I shot a puppy and said that's racist as hell. I tried to explain that coonass is Cajun and while I wouldn't call a Cajun that, he's a damn Cajun so he can call himself that. She's like well it's offensive to black people. It took me a hot second but she assumed anything called a coon is offensive to blacks. I have never laughed so hard in my life. Somehow this chick heard some old arse racial slang and just assumed, because she's never been to the south, it had zero other applications.

It is pretty near impossible to get more racist than saying things like POC can't be on time, do math, or take standardized tests. Not just because they can, because it creates a lower threshold of reasonable expectations.

Calling this stuff "the soft bigotry of low expectations" is far too mild. This is a more fundamentally harsher and extreme form of bigotry.

And it is being endorsed as anti-racist by grifters out to enrich themselves at the expense of the people they claim to be compassionate about.
