Frontier Airlines Out at Lafayette Airport, Cites Low Demand

LINK

Frontier Airlines, which announced last fall it would suspend operations out of Lafayette until the spring, has suspended all operations indefinitely, company officials announced this morning.

The Denver-based low-cost airline, which announced in late 2018 it would offer flights out of Lafayette, said demand out of Lafayette Regional Airport was “insufficient to continue,” company officials said in the announcement.

Bad news for LFT. Maybe United Airlines can add service to Denver or American can add service to Charlotte.

It was a dumb move to begin with. There is no way in hell Lafayette has the demand to support flights to Denver and Orlando. There is multiple daily flights to Houston, Dallas, and Atlanta. That's really all that is needed.

KATC reported 40,000 travelers for Frontier in the last year -- that sounded like a lot to me??

Judging by all the twenty somethings I see with four kids crawling all over them, Frontier's about the only thing pulling out in Lafayette.

Trashy.

I wouldn't brag about your city being serviced by Frontier.

Dude it’s a $39 fare.

You should be happy even if you are sitting on a bale of hay and there are goats in the aisle.

I want to see LFT get daily nonstops to CLT on American....and BTR get daily nonstops to ORD on United.

American has surpassed Delta in market share at BTR.

Then we need a discount carrier like Southwest to fully “hub” MSY. Or at least a Delta focus city status like Austin.

Frontier's market is limited service dates with point-to-point travel for the budget conscious/tourist market. They thrive on small to mid market cities like LFT without direct service to major tourist destinations. They take advantage of new airline discounts the Airport Board's offer and will often leave after the incentive is up when the margins tighten.

Consequently, the limited service model also creates headaches for the traveler since delays and infrequent routes mean the population of available flyers is reduced.
