From this point on all killers should use the Alec Baldwin defense

Just say I thought it was a prop gun.

If you have a real gun in your hand and have been trained, you always treat it as loaded.

Alec Baldwin being a liberal idiot does not know gun safety and I hope he spends the next 10 years in jail.

It won’t be a good defense. Just wait and see.

At the end of the day the person shooting the weapon is responsible for checking if it is loaded or not no matter what they are told.

Just say that someone handed you a firearm and you were told it was empty.

At least 50% of people on here will defend you.

These threads are embarrassingly stupid

What if you have a prop gun in your hand?

To me, its mind boggling that an entire industry hands firearms over to people who aren't proficient in their use, expecting someone else to be the cover.

That's not legit. Every other person is taught that a firearm and it's safety is the shooters responsibility. But not actors. That's irresponsible.

That’s why I don’t trust anyone.

That depends on whether or not you were told by someone else that it was “cold”.

These threads are sad. I’m sure the dude is dealing with all kinds of remorse and guilt, he didn’t try and kill someone. Yes he should’ve checked that it was safe but also he was handed it by an expert he trusts and has probably done the same hundreds of time so felt safe.

Overall it’s a really sad situation for everyone especially the lady who was shot and her family, I’m not sure why some people think Baldwin deserves to be arrested? Just because you hate him?

Should have seen the threads yesterday. There are people here who are convinced a second pair of eyes on a round causes more problems. Lots of people here are cluless about firearms.

I'll bet you that most firearm owners of the OT are more "expert" than this armorer was.

It’s easy to hate in Alec Baldwin on here bc of his politics but this is a dumb take. It’s a movie set, not like a hunting accident or some other place where there would be any reason to believe that was a live round.

Makes it even more shocking.

You never ever point a firearm at another person. Period.

Baldwin did, which is against protocols. He's a fricking idiot.

The first rule of handling a firearm is treating every single one like it's loaded and never point at anyone.

Why do you give Baldwin a pass? He's the producer, he hired an incompetent prop gun person, there were misfires already on the set and you think this is a mere "accident?"

Nah, its incompetence.

This may seem a picayune point, but I'd use the word 'holding' the weapon. Shooting or not, if someone asks you to hold a weapon, you should be aware of the situation.

Firearms are pointed at people in every single action movie you’ve ever watched.

Normal people in every day life don't use guns within set parameters and procedures to ensure no errors prior to putting in the sole possession of the shooter. It's not a comparable situation.

Just like you don't have the same responsibilities to check your automobile daily as an F1 pit crew does for their vehicle. Do you blame the driver of an F1 car if a major mechanical malfunction happens? Of course not, because the system is built differently than in real life. Even then, an F1 driver is more of a participant in the process than an actor is with a firearm on set.

Almost solely due to camera tricks apparently.

Actor positioning and angles.
