"St. Bernard Parish is on the right path. Industries reflecting smart economic principles are growing, including film, arts, ecotourism, and blue-green infrastructure, among others. The Meraux Foundation will continue to actively support and invest in this type of economic development, which plays to our community’s strengths, is sustainable, and improves the quality of life for all those who live, work, and play here. Sincerely, Arlene & Joseph Meraux Charitable Foundation"

Notably we have elections coming up this fall and lots of current officials including the parish president are term limited out…

My guess is “the right path” was exporting the Chalmations to Slidell.

There's a whole neighborhood of them in Covington. They all moved from one Chalmation neighborhood to another in Covington. All those old people are still neighbors...just across the pond...LOL

You can take the trash out of St Bernard but you can’t take the St Bernard out of trash, apparently.

I’m still here though

We’ve been having drama relating to a Facebook poster we only know as “Storie Teller”, who apparently is in the know about local gossip, and has a down the road bias

But the Meraux Foundation is basically centered in Old Arabi, and they’re trying to make that a hipster mecca

Guy has done a great job as Parish President.

St. Bernard is still a very nice place to live, work and play.

The port expansion is coming. People in StB will fight it until the end instead of supporting and getting some concessions. The port has deeper pockets than StB and Sidney is going to die sooner or later.

Well just the Old Arabi part… I love chilling on the river near the OAB with a great view of the city. For the lower 9th being right there the vibes are surprisingly great and there’s no hobos in that area

What is the Meraux Foundation, why are they adverse to port expansion and why does their opinion matter?

In their facebook post, no explanations are given.

Amen. I wish they would just embrace it. The port is going to expand judge Perez and will be the nicest thing chalmette has had in its history.
