What do you tell your friend in this situation? I’m glad she told me but I have no real suggestions or comments on what she can or should do. When you were laid off, what advice worked?

Party hard for one weekend and sleep in on a Monday.
Then hit the pavement hard looking for employment, while simultaneously planning for contingencies if you don't find a new income stream soon such as new budget, renting a room out, etc.

Apply for unemployment and talk to recruiters day 1 though.
