News said they didn’t even try to drop anchor.
I know there could be reasons to not drop anchor but would like to know why they didn’t.
Also, no report of escort tugs.

One of those times where being late could be a lifesaver.

I said that in the poli board thread. A few of them may go bankrupt.

301 is a toll road through Maryland but you can pay by plate online.
I have EZ-Pass.

The smoke looked to be from the control room/bridge area and way before the collision. You can see the power go out then come back on then out again when it rams the base. Looked to be a fire imo.

I'm driving back to New Jersey from North Carolina tomorrow. Looks like a detour west at DC for me. Tragic situation, though, RIP to those who fell with the bridge.
Just take US 50/301 through Annapolis over the Bay Bridge instead.

You could pick up 301 around Richmond and dodge the Capital Beltway...

This is why my ships unload at Norfolk. No reason to risk going to Baltimore

That smoke has to be the captain gunning it trying to avoid the piling last second, right?
Remember, odds are this is a diesel powered ship. Loss of power, then a restart? Not like the old ships using Bunker-C, complete with boilers.

Yeah, I’ve already decided to do that.

Depends on the port/river.

That is absolutely insane that anyone could survive that! Between the fall, debris raining down, and water temperature that's outrageous
Wonder if it were cars either just starting to cross at the bottom of the bridge or workers.

The stacks are behind the bridge. Nothing in that video indicates a fire on the bridge.

probably at least a year.
Good thing it isn’t Baton Rouge or Louisiana, they would still be arguing over the funding, location, style, and contractor for the project which has been ongoing for the proposed South Baton Rouge Mississippi River Bridge.

And deal with stop lights the whole way to Annapolis. Even with the current 8 am traffic google maps says it's 30 minutes quicker to take 95 to 495 than it is to take 301.

Anyone know where they can send the car carriers for the next couple of years? This is going to be a pretty big disruption for them.
Savannah or New Jersey off the top of my head
