I’ve been out of the loop prepping but did I just hear Jim Cantore just said this really isn’t gonna be anything?

Are you on track to make it home??

To be honest, I haven't found their wind forecasts during tropical storms to be super-accurate in the past. They tend to under-estimate the wind. So I really wouldn't rely too much on that.
NWS is a dinosaur. It will become semi accurate day of.

So fascinating to a layperson like myself how all this stuff works. Very educational.

Yup. This is trending toward a very underwhelming storm.
Has the “nothing burger” bingo hit yet?

New GRAF even farther east and also making it kinda fall apart at landfall
I assume if it starts falling apart that would lessen the storm surge? Saw earlier that 6-8 feet were expected in Franklin and they are only 10' above sea level.
(Saw it on WC so who knows how accurate it is).

any DS-Walker-Livingston Parish baws? I feel like BR-LC-NOLA has had a large representation in this thread for the most part

Weather is amazing and this shows it is not just water temps that matter.

Shea Gibson
@SheaGibsonWx
Seeing a reading from the Alaminos Canyon Oil Rig ~200 miles off of TX coast showing 48mph sustained with gusts into the 60's. Height of rig unknown but this is estimated at least 130-160ft up - so there is height bias in this reading. Just for reference here.

How to find NWS forecasted winds for your location
Thanks The Boat for clarifying. In the city it is better to use the map like you showed since zip codes can cover a large populated area.

right? I love the people saying stuff like that like it's some kind of gotcha to people following the weather all of us living here are hoping it's fricking nothing
I thought I was the only one thinking this... we got to take all reports credible or not serious

OTR @OTR444 Tropical Storm Francine could impact up to 5.8 mbpd of refining capacity along the U.S. Gulf Coast this week. Producers have shut in 0.4 mbpd of crude output in anticipation of the storm.
Who? Not a single refinery in LA has shut down or plans on shutting down ahead of the storm. Plenty of chem plants are shutting down but no refineries. I’ll say the one exception is Valero MX is entering a TAR but that has been planned
