So we’re at a 7pm landfall now

That’s my biggest takeaway. I was hoping for a noon landfall. That is a huge difference.

I hear ya but people spending all day posting in this thread shouldn’t be complaining about missing work deadlines

My point is, if my kids are home, the only way I’m getting work done is to avoid “parenting”. My personal situation just provides a very concrete example of how life has to go on, and I don’t think suggesting that people do not like or want to spend time with their kids in these situations is very productive. I think it’s inflammatory and the main way these threads get derailed.

Really doesn’t matter what happens. The insurance lobby is going to pay off our weak arse politicians and our insurance rates will continue to go up regardless of the actual amount of claims they have to pay.

I’m completely shocked that the cone and track moved East since that one guy said everything was still the same as yesterday.

I keep 20 gallons in my outdoor shed every year. Fill it up in May, keep 12 months, use in my cars the following May then refill. Has come in handy a couple times the past 5 years

Shifted center of cone to between Franklin and Patterson...then to Pierre Part. Morgan City is now in the crosshairs.

Tropical Storm Francine Discussion Number 8
NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL AL062024
1000 AM CDT Tue Sep 10 2024

quote:

After meandering last night, Francine is now moving
north-northeastward with an initial motion of 020/7 kt. An
approaching mid-latitude shortwave trough over Texas should cause
the storm to turn northeastward at a faster forward speed during the
next 24-36 h, and this motion should bring the center to the
Louisiana coast sometime Wednesday afternoon or evening. After
landfall, Francine should turn more northward between the trough and
a mid-level ridge over the eastern United States. The track
guidance is generally in good agreement with this scenario. However,
there has been an eastward shift of the guidance since the last
advisory, and thus the new forecast track is also shifted eastward.
In response to this eastward shift in track and southeastern wind
radii, the hurricane warning in Louisiana was extended eastward at
12Z, and this advisory has new tropical storm warnings and watches
for the coasts of Mississippi and Alabama
.

How does doing virtual class alleviate the time needed to pack shite up and possibly leave town?

None. You're either virtual tomorrow, evacuating /hunkering down and canelling.

You've got zero clue what you're talking about about
Except this is exactly what is being done now in private schools in St Tammany

Virtual tomorrow, TBD on Thursday

Virtual for elementary and middle schools is an absolute joke.
Agreed. High schools should have different protocol.

Offer a more challenging option with additional expectations (virtual, etc. for honors, students in accelerated programs, etc.) and more autonomy from school to school with looser district guidelines so parents could chose a school that offers the best structure for their student not just based on location of residence within the parish.

Who gives a frick right now? Is a debate about school closures constructive at all?
Why can’t you people fricking focus on the next 48 hours and just exchange info and some limited discourse about relevant things??
