Have been in Europe for a couple months now. Spain and France. They smoke like fricking chimneys and it's disgusting. For all their nonsense about save the planet and how healthy they are, they throw their butts all over the streets and constantly light up at outdoor seating at restaurants so we don't even take tables outside anymore. Nasty fricks.

violators of the law could face a nearly half-million-dollar fine and years in jail.

The prohibition extends to the use, acquisition, possession and sale of oral nicotine products such as pouches and gum lozenges. Those violating the law could be penalized by up to five years in prison and a $436,600 fine.

This all sounds completely sane and perfectly reasonable.

It is a known issue around major tourist locations but lets crack down on those nicotine pouches!

5 years. First time was 26 years ago. To be honest, I never liked the crowded streets. Stayed a few days on my way to Pau both times. Pau was great… hard working, nice people. Beautiful area.

Just because I do Zyn doesn't mean I'm trash. If I were to be ripping on a pair of 6's in a fancy French restaurant, I would discretely dispose of them in a napkin prior to eating or tasting wine. If napkins were not available, I would do the classy thing and swallow them (which may result in some limited coughing/gagging, but again, discrete). Worst case scenario and the food unexpectedly comes out after I just popped a fresh one, I'll sneak it behind my ear and put it back in my mouth at an appropriate and bourgeois time.

Nearly every brand besides Zyn has those awesome storage compartments in the lid for the used pouches. Zyn needs to get with the program on that. Also I can’t imagine swallowing a pouch. Worst case scenario I just put it in my pocket.

I'll have to smuggle them in my foreskin the next trip to Val d'Isère.

The health ministry’s new rule classifies nicotine as a “toxic substance,” citing public health risks such as addiction and bouts of “acute nicotinic syndromes,” which in some severe cases can lead to prolonged vomiting with risk of dehydration, seizures and other debilitating side effects. Chewing tobacco, medications and medical devices used to quit smoking — such as certain types of nicotine gums and inhalers — will not be subject to the ban, according to the French government. The ban, which took effect April 1, also doesn’t apply to cigarettes or vape products.

This may be the most nonsensical and hypocritical thing I’ve ever seen. Seems like there has to be going on behind the scenes, like a bribe by big tobacco. Europe is pathetic.

Funny. I bought a can of Zyn for the first time recently since the first can of pouches I ever bought, years ago (wanted to try the cinnamon). Didn’t think to look on the bottom…I feel dumb.

But really wondering now why someone would swallow it instead of just using the compartment.
