Yes.

But, it sounds like your mind is made up. My thinking is that there are so many women out there who aren't related to you, why pick one who is?

The bloodline is not close enough to make any difference. Enjoy yourselves. Gives you something to talk about

So technically legal, but I'd just find a new girlfriend if I were you.

Yes, but it's not a big deal. Even 1st cousins isn't as big a deal as it's made out to be.

Few Risks Seen To the Children Of 1st Cousins

quote:

Contrary to widely held beliefs and longstanding taboos in America, first cousins can have children together without a great risk of birth defects or genetic disease, scientists are reporting today. They say there is no biological reason to discourage cousins from marrying.

First cousins are somewhat more likely than unrelated parents to have a child with a serious birth defect, mental retardation or genetic disease, but their increased risk is nowhere near as large as most people think, the scientists said.

In the general population, the risk that a child will be born with a serious problem like spina bifida or cystic fibrosis is 3 percent to 4 percent; to that background risk, first cousins must add another 1.7 to 2.8 percentage points, the report said.

Although the increase represents a near doubling of the risk, the result is still not considered large enough to discourage cousins from having children, said Dr. Arno Motulsky, a professor emeritus of medicine and genome sciences at the University of Washington, and the senior author of the report.

''In terms of general risks in life it's not very high,'' Dr. Motulsky said. Even at its worst, 7 percent, he said, ''93 percent of the time, nothing is going to happen.''

Think of it this way...

Your grandmother or grandfather (parents of your mother) and her great-grandmother or great-grandfather (parents of her grandmother) were siblings.

That's pretty close, man.

In 07 I dated a girl from 250 miles away. No family connection traceable. Found out 4 years later that her real grandfather and my grandmother were uncle and niece.

I took three seconds to laugh at it and moved on.

Given that any of the older families essentially have practiced line breeding, a second or third cousin removed doesn't matter.

It's not the messed up kids that you need to worry about (as people have pointed out the changes at that distance are slim). What I'd be worried about is just how weird it would be with the rest of your family members. Just seems so awkward.

Agreed. If this was Kentucky he'd be dating his male 2nd cousin once removed. Hillbilly don't care what they bang.
