I mean, William Henry Johnson was a pretty cool cat, I'll give them that

They renamed Camp Beauregard as well.
I'll always remember them by their old names and may refer them as such. But I'm over getting outraged over such things.

Wish it would of gone the same way they renamed Bragg to Liberty. Oh well at least it's not Fort Mulvaney.

Johnson? As in E. Normous?

Darth, there are too many people who do not know our history. We need to teach it better and naming bases after real heroes is a great way to get things started.
This blame man fought under the Stars and Stripes even though back in the US he was considered a second class citizen in a lot of places. No, the US isn’t perfect and there were many injustices, but he fought anyway.
People need to ask themselves why?
Personally, I like to think it was because despite our flaws, we were the greatest country in Earth and in time we would be even better. Johnson had to have seen a lot of good here to have fought so hard. People need to remember that.

Don’t we already have a Fort Dix?

The pandering never stops

Don’t be so hard on Leesville. I believe you spent some time there peddling real estate. It helped you on your way to becoming an OT Baller. Right?

Much more appropriate name. If you have ever spent any duty-time at Polk you would know why.

Johnson being given the Medal of Honor by Obama, 85 years after his death smells like affirmative action.

Think about it, no black military member received a MoH during or in the immediate aftermath of WW1 or WW2. You think that is right?
It took until 1991 for a medal to be awarded for WWI and 1997 for a medal to be awarded for WWII.

My friend built those signs. It's all stucco.
I thought they are made of plastic. When a hurricane threatens, they just take down the modular parts revealing the metal skeleton/frame.

Fort Polk officially renamed
I was stationed a Fort Polk briefly after the First Gulf War. The main thing I remember is during the summer, every day between 2-3 in the afternoon it would come a freaking deluge. Then as quick as it came, the rain was gone, the clouds were gone, and the sun, heat, and humidity were just brutal. Within minutes everything had steam coming off it, including us.

Nah, a lot of these guys deserved these awards. Johnny Jones received his Purple Heart from WWII like 2 years ago. He was 100 years old at the time I believe.

Not many had the opportunity to win that or any medals. The overwhelming majority of black soldiers were relegated to rear echelon support units doing things like driving trucks, cooks, etc.
Not saying it was right, in fact it was wrong. But that’s the reality of it. Of course there were notable exceptions to this in both wars like the Harlem Hellfighters in WWI, the 761st Armor Battalion, and Tuskegee Airmen of WWII. But for the vast majority of black soldiers in WWI and II, they spent the war never coming close to combat.

Does this mean crime will start to go down, as will the fatherless homes, and the rampant seed spreading within a certain race will start to subside and dwindle? If so, I can deal with this seemingly useless pandering.
I'll hang up and listen.
