He had a photographic memory for people, places andd events. I went to his book signing a few years ago when he was well past 80. He did an impromptu 30 minute Q&A with the audience and was very sharp. When he signed my book i introduced myself by name and mentioned meeting him when I was a teenager. He recalled the event in detail
I’ve heard this before and it amazes me. Meanwhile, I forget what I had for breakfast.
I’ve heard that Bill Clinton is the same way. The only person I know that ever met Bill Clinton said this exact same thing about him.

I’ve heard this too. Clinton could go into a big room and meet someone and come back around a few hours later and remember the person and what they talked about. EWE also did that.
People that know both Clinton and EWE say that the two men were very similar in their political instincts. Two of the most effective political minds ever.

Yea most of the people bashing EWE would suck Trumps dick if he asked them to and their forms of populism aren’t that far apart

I'm a certified Trump skeptic, hold no love for Trump even though I voted for him twice and really do not want him to run again in 2024.
I still bash the frick out of Edwin Edwards as one of the worst thing to ever happen to Louisiana.

Another of his "famous quotes: " Asked during a campaign Q&A by pool reporters where he met his wife, with a straight face he answered " under her father's porch". i.e. bitch-like. And he was no Clinton-like populist. No where close. He was a crook. Clinton, deservedly so, is called a lot of things but the word "crook' is not bandied about near as much.

I have always been an anti-corruption Edwards critic. I believe he killed Louisiana's momentum in the 70's and 80's by scaring off legitimate business. But when he ran against Duke I just couldn't bring myself to vote for Duke and reluctantly voted for him. Being a young guy fresh out of college I also did some work gratis for Edwards. He rewarded me by inviting me to his box in the dome on the 50 yard line for the Saints vs Falcons playoff game. It was a big game and of course the Saints choked. I remember thinking I was the only guy there that wasn't a made guy. All 30ish to 50ish Guidos in Italian suits with 25 year old girlfriends. It was a good time and Edwards was very engaging and charming. His ex wife Candy is good friends now with my oldest daughter. My best friend's Dad was in his cabinet. There were many ties.
RIP Governor. I hope you are at the great craps table in the sky.

People voted for Edwards because so to so many he was un de nous autres or one of us....especially to the Cajuns. He did a lot for them and New Orleans. He put hospitals in Houma, bridges over the Intracoastal....made sure that there were shoulders on the roads....and yes, he made himself rich while doing it from people who were all too happy to pay the graft charge for their state contracts.

If only there was a word in the English language for this.

Drug lords and their cartels all over Latin America build schools, hospitals, roads, playgrounds and all kinds of good things.
Doesn't stop them from being evil monsters that are guilty of raping, killing, looting, pillaging and all kinds of evil acts of violence against innocent people and entire communities that would stand up to them and try to stop their poison from destroying their people.
Pablo Escobar is one big example of this and he was still hunted down in the end and put down like an animal.
It's called buying sympathy and compliance and it only works for so long, not forever. People eventually wise up to your bullshite.

Didn't the media even say that he was put in hospice to be cared for that he wasn't near death as well... Just to show, someone was full of shite...Either the media or the Edwards family.
Or as usual, considering the media is the mouthpiece of the Dem party, they lie & turn a blind eye on the reg.

Republicans have been bitching about how he screwed up things since 1979 when he left out after his first two terms. But since they have been in effective control have shown themselves to be even more inept ineffectual and stupid than could be imagined. Edwin Edwards understood this state and its people far better and intimately than any politician in my lifetime . And if you think other Southern, Midwestern or Norteastern governors were clean, get real.
Because not only did he give this state the pay to play corrupt reputation but many things can’t be fixed when it’s too late. So many businesses & economic opportunities were lost.

I will admit a love-hate relationship with EWE.
I am from small town America, but have been fully aware of his shenanigans for quite some time, as have been so many of us.
He has been so loved because he protected so many people in the budget process, basically EVERYTHING, but left big healthcare and higher education open for the slaughter. So sure he has ALOT of friends in business and industry, but the feminine teachers unions are on their own now. This is coming home to roost now.

Years later his idiot son got caught picking up a cash payment from BR casino and so he got indicted too. Despite no real proof of his involvement, everyone knew he was involved or his son was using his name to shake down the casino. (I personally think it was probably the latter)
God Bless Saint Shakedown. May he forever have Gumbo in the sky. Oh how benevolent Saint Shakedown was to those who loved.
May Pope Francis see it in his heart to recognize the importance of Saint Shakedown to the people of Louisiana.

Trump spent his life up until he was elected president as a private businessman, and based on the inability of the justice department, the FBI, the IRS, or any of the other federal agencies that have investigated him to find a crime he committed, made his money legitimately. EWE spent his career stealing from taxpayers, and structuring the government of Louisiana to benefit him not the residents of the state.

Hillary is the crook. Clinton the enabler.
Clinton would give you anything you want if it would get him what he wants.
Jesse Jackson said it best about Clinton, he has no core beliefs, nothing but an appetite.

The IRS has every legal tax document the man has submitted in his life and the IRS was not only weaponized against Republicans, it also hated Trump.
As crazy as it may seem, Trump, by evidence, is, legally speaking, the squeakiest clean American in the history of America.
