Forgiveness is not forgetting about the wrong, or trusting that person again. It just means you aren't going to bring it up again and again to that person. Or focus on it. Its about letting it go.

You can forgive someone, and then cut them out of your life. that has worked well for me.

I'll forgive them after I set them on fire and hear them beg for the permission to die. Maybe not even then.

I never truly forgive anyone and always treat said person with suspicion from then on. Shitty character trait but I'm a shitty person apparently.

Yes but it was a tough pill to swallow. I’m glad I did, it’s liberating. I think they still have issues with me but they’re just not there yet. I even now pray for this person.

What did they do to you if it's not too personal?

Unforgiveness is the poison I drink hoping you will die.
Forgiveness is a process, it also rarely starts with speaking this to the other person.
Choice not an emotion.

I’ve tried, but some people are too cowardly to meet people face to face. Too craven to even have a tete â tete.

Good for you for swallowing your pride. I'm sure it was tough to do.

Church has become a joke, I agree.

Here’s a piece of advice my dad once gave me:

The naive forgive and forget
The stupid neither forgive nor forget
The wise forgive but NEVER forget

This has always served me well throughout my life.

Once I turn his face into a bloody pool of hamburger meat I’ll consider forgiving him.

This is hard to do when the person never stops disrespecting you and it is someone you have to have contact with on a regular basis.

Resentments can ruin your life. Best lesson I ever learned was that there are some things I have no control over.
One practice I learned that helped me deal with a resentment was to pray for that person...that God would bless them. Pray for that person's well-being, even if you don't feel like it or mean it.

Commit to pray for the person you hate. Do it every day for 30 days.

I did this because my resentment for this person was unhealthy, and the people around me were beginning to feel the consequences of this resentment.

After 2 weeks my prayers became sincere. After 30 days my resentment was gone.

It's a spiritual solution.

Forgiveness isn’t for the person you forgive, it’s for your self. Once you forgive someone, the weight is no longer on you.

Forgiveness is a conscious choice. It’s not like you feel good one day and then you say I forgive them. You have to work on it and actively tell yourself I’m letting go of all this resentment. It’s gets easier with time and afterwards you realize that you no longer feel anger and stress when you think of them. It’s definitely easier to forgive someone the less that person is in your life during that process. Less opportunities to take the easy route and get worked up, dredging up the old feeling and placing you in square one.

When you hold on to hate, you are giving that person you dislike immense control over your life.
Your life is too valuable to give them that hold over you.
