Has anyone here done this? It has been recommended to me that forgiving the person I hate the most will provide relief of the aggression and frustration I feel with that person, although the thought of telling this person “I forgive you” makes me want to puke. Supposedly the forgiveness is for me, not them. Anyone tried this technique?

You spend a lot of energy on hatred and I'm recently guilty of the same.

Once you can bring yourself to realize that this person wronged you, you can't change it and you need to move on with your own life, then you will start to heal.

It sucks, but it's necessary to move past it. Good luck sir.

Forgive them no. Accept that they are dead to me and I don't speak to them, think about them, worry about what they are doing, yes.

Yes but it was a tough pill to swallow. I’m glad I did, it’s liberating. I think they still have issues with me but they’re just not there yet. I even now pray for this person.

Forgiveness is for you. Not him/her. Remember that.

And yes...it can be done.

Holding unforgiveness in your heart is like drinking poison and expecting someone else to die. Don’t remember the quote exactly. Let it go, for you! It’s a choice you make not a feeling.

"forgiving" is the right word. because every footstep you take from now on in "forgiving"

there is no such thing as "forgave" in the past tense. you just can't forgive and it's over with at that moment.

this is how you must treat forgiveness in the beginning and make up your mind it is a daily thing, then magically one day it won't be a daily thing and then eventually it will be in the past.

Forgiving doesn't mean everything's okay between you. It doesn't mean you have to let them back into your life. It just means you've let go of the anger.

at one time or another over my 52 years there have surely been people I hated.
now I couldn’t begin to tell you who they were or why

let go of things you cannot do anything about, and of people that no longer affect you positively or negatively. You will find as you get older the number of people you truly give a shite about in any manner grows smaller and smaller and you are better off for that

This is what the sermon was about on Sunday. It's not something I'm very good at.

I would never give an undeserving person forgiveness and don’t agree with it for the sake of one’s self because it’s not true and not worth the relief the other person may feel. There are ways to block things out
