Ford fixed pricing spinoff thread, are we losing the skill set to barter?

FORD's fixed pricing will mean the highest price, not lowest for the consumer (see the CarMax model). Are we creating a generation that does not know how to haggle anymore?

You don't have any power when you finance everything 84 months

Uh, “bartering” =/= negotiating or haggling.

Most people negotiate from a position of weakness anyway due to their extreme ignorance of finances. This would “help” those people but would likely hurt the savvy buyer

A lot of people can’t negotiate. That was true 20 years ago as it is today.
The dealership will likely frick you no matter what, you’re just negotiating whether or not you get a reach around out of the deal.

Will it though?
They are taking the middle men out so all the dealer up charge will be gone

Imma build my own truck and service my own damn truck and do it my own damn way. That’s cutting the middle man out.

no it wont. lmao. ford is gonna take it along with paying pennies on the dollar for some 3rd worlder to process all of the paperwork. so every community with a dealership will lose jobs and the only one that will come out ahead in the whole deal is ford.

Haggling is such a déclassé activity.

I am old and I grew up in a world of horse trading that evolved into auto trading. Bartering / negotiating / haggling are all part of the same thing. Not sure why you feel they are not.
I am a big fan of Game Theory and finding a value where buyer and seller both come away feeling good to facilitate doing it over and over for a long period of time. If folks believe in true "Free Markets" they negotiating VS fixed should always be preferred.

Modern business means passing saving up the food chain, not downstream to the consumer.

Your ability to negotiate is based on supply, demand, and. scarcity of resources. If you want the only truck on the lot, good luck.

Does Tesla allow haggling? I don't think they do. That is the model the auto world will settle on.

Move to India if you want to barter.
I for one wish this model would’ve changed years ago. Everything is preorder now anyways. The last thing I want to do is deal with some slicked up 20 year old drop out trying to tell me something I don’t already know. Then go talk to his drop out sales manager who thinks he’s Tony Montana.

They will add on window tint, theft system, paint protection to every car. They will then hit you in the finance room with gap/credit insurance/extended warranty/maint plan..same suckers will buy it all

The vast majority of all deals involve a trade in so it is bartering, boom.

Tesla does not
Purchase is done online and vehicle arrives at your home within days depending on your location
When they started this, the car world held its breath in hopes that it would fail but it hasn’t and it’s not likely to fail. It’s very popular.
I’ve spoken to some dealers and literally despise Tesla for what they’ve done to the car market

Ford sticker price means spit.
I bought a new F150 STX recently, the hidden fees and bullshite were unreal. They are adding an inventory tax on all sales, they tried to add $2,500 to mine with no explanation until I asked what the F it was.
I nearly walked out but needed a truck.
