“Moving forward” he says!
If a technology is politically and ideologically motivated, is it really moving “forward”?
Even if it’s more expensive, less reliable, more damaging to the environment and practically ineffective in lowering carbon emissions (all in), which is its stated goal, the “smart people” from the woke universities think its moving forward.
Let’s just ignore the OP which quotes the CEO of a major auto manufacturer.

Anyone purchasing an EV today is an absolute confirmation of how idiotic and brainwashed we are as a society.

My cell phone battery weighs 8 ounces. Your car battery will weigh 8000 pounds. Are you daft?

quote:This is true, but thinking on a large scale, EVs are really in their infancy stage of the industry. It's going to get better. And that also doesn't factor in that the vast majority of charging is done at home, so it actually takes less of an EV's owners time to charge than an ICE owner who has to go to the gas station and pump the gas, but that never is factored in.
But even a Tesla is slower to recharge than an ICE is to fill up
quote:If a storm is headed your way and you know this for days, it's not a car problem if you try to evacuate with no charge.
If Duke says a storm is potentially headed towards you, and you drive a EV, you need to head north that instant. You will be screwed if stuck with thousands of people driving out of town and the chargers are backed up.
But the thing you miss is, every time this happens, we see a bunch of posters discussing gas outages and long lines, but the EV owner can have a full "tank" ready to evacuate by charging from home.
quote:Your EV charge will last longer than your gas powered vehicle idling in traffic.
Then you heavy arse EV dies and blocks the road.
quote:In fairness, based on your post, you're basing this on information you have this is factually incorrect.
EV are a terrible idea.

I agree with this, but that is most people's issue. The length of time to recharge the batteries.
Which is fine, the tech needs time to get there, but we have leftists pushing us to move to that before the tech is ready. I think that is most people's complaints about it.

They aren't a better alternative for everyone. If they were the government wouldn't have to effectively backdoor mandate more of them.

The era of toolboxes is over.
The era of truck mounted gas generators is now upon us.
One of you baws need to figure out how to make it look cool and how to charge from the generator while driving...then again I am sure someone has already done this.

But in fairness, folks hated on EVs wayyyyyy before the past couple of years when these mandates became a thing, so I think it's just another reason people hate EVs, but they were hating on them before.

EV charging stations are not meant to be used like gas stations, most people should charge at home/office. Moreover, other than Tesla, the other charging networks are not willing to spend money to deploy out in remote areas to sustain road trips, which is disconcerting for me. Instead, they concentrate on population centers, to make money. Gas stations don't even make much money on the fuel, they make their money at the convenience store.

This is cognitive dissonance, saving the earth with "green energy" mandates equals a nursing mother with her baby working in a rare earth's mine.
Any other tech heads out there want to chime in?
#1 Not enough battery "metals" to make the batteries
#2 92% of the energy to charge the batteries will be oil, coal, or nat gas
#3 Gas tax is what builds and maintains roads
#4 Energy aware means small & sedans, not big & SUV's

Evs have awhile to catch up with cell phones, cordless batteries, laptops, and even vapes. Those will still be using lithium when as battery technology in an EV moves...FORWARD.

I would rather see diesel electric with no battery storage imo but it would cost an insane amount. Would be awesome to have a 40 kw diesel genset pushing electric motors sipping 1-2 gallons an hour and could also double as job site / home backup power.

quote:I'm sure these silly shock value figures sway people.
For each average 1,000 lb. battery you need to mine 500,000 lbs. of material. These truck batteries are nearly three times the size of a typical car battery, meaning that for one of these trucks, 1.5 million lbs. of mined material are necessary to manufacture each battery. Each one will include processing 75,000 pounds of brine for lithium, 90,000 pounds of ore for the cobalt, 15,000 pounds of ore for Nickel and 75,000 pounds of ore for the copper.
Definitely earth conscious vehicles.
I believe the shill who made up these values didn't provide any sources. He also included a fudge factor of like 5X. And we don't have any numbers for ICE or other products we use for comparison. A lot of earth gets moved for everything we make.
In more rational units, 1.5 million pounds of mined material is roughly 400 yards of mined material which obviously doesn't sound nearly as shocking. Another way to put it is a hole 22 x 22 x 22 feet. And again these figures are likely several times higher than real world because they were made up by a guy who gets paid to oppose EVs.

They have lots of problem with sodium ion batteries. Leakage and durability are huge issues.
