All of this based on a global warming hoax
Fossil Fuels are still the way to go.

Might at well just send them the money as aid like we used to, and stop exploiting their labor and resources for propaganda gains.

The mining for battery metals cause suffering of people who will never be able to afford electric cars.
You know you need to add your cell phone and cordless tools to that list? I still sont understand how people think this is a recent issue

The answer to all of this environmental concern is a migration to natural gas.
The environmentalists won’t endorse it because it involves petroleum and its infrastructure which they detest. Look at the push back to pipelines… which are the safest way to get product transported.
They’d rather ignore the risks and drawbacks in electric than admit that natural gas makes the most sense

It will be interesting to see the fallout when the first generation of these EVs reach end of life, both in resale market and disposal.
Just imagine the explosion from an 8000LB battery when traveling 65MPH. I don't even want a fricking Hybrid. Sorry, I'm just not cool enough for EV.

If you get a truck with one of those big batteries you will have to also get a big lift kit and truck nuts.
I have a Lightning.

I dont understand why they dont make a truck that can do like 100 miles on battery and then have a decently powerful turbo gas or diesel engine. Similar to the drivetrain in the jeep 4xe line but have about 100 miles of range. That would make way more sense than full electric.

it’s so frustrating that liberals/left let environmental wackos take over their party and push politicians to do stupid shite by signing EOs and laws with arbitrary dates
hybrid technology was continuing to evolve on its own, there was no need to push this bullshite so quickly when we clearly don’t have the tech or the infrastructure ready…this is going to hurt the working poor/middle class the most because it’s just going to continue increasing the price of vehicles
all in the name of “sCiEnCe”

Current parking garages are not designed for these heavy vehicles. Garages need to be retrofitted or somehow restrict EVs from parking inside the garage.

My cell phone battery weighs 8 ounces. Your car battery will weigh 8000 pounds. Are you daft?

Electric trucks are kind of dumb right now, but so is this thread. Petrol trucks are already extremely heavy. The original H2 came in at 6,500 lbs. The problem is all of you baws paying $80k+ to drive jacked up super dutys as family haulers. If that's what you want, i have no problem. But why get mad when that's what carmakers are selling. Supply and demand.

I have a crew cab F150 and it weighs right around 4700 lbs

frick that shite.
It's going to be interesting to see how the consumer responds to this push for EVs. I suspect that there will be car lots full of electric trucks that no one wants to buy.

if the manufacturers are smart they'll start working on a reasonably priced retrofit to replace all of those batteries with an internal combustion engine

Agreed. When I researched the hybrid, I found the battery replacements costs sort of all over the place but mostly between 8k and 14k. Per Honda you can expect to replace it between 100-150k. To me, that negates any benefit to the better fuel economy. We just bought a regular one. Gets 30 mpg anyway.

The Hummer EV’s 212kWh battery is heavier than a Honda Civic. Chevy just announced a higher range estimate for its forthcoming Silverado EV for a total of 450 miles on a single charge. That’s thanks to the 200kWh Ultium battery firing its electrons beneath the floorboards of this 8,000-pound behemoth. The Ram 1500 REV includes an option for a 229kWh battery for a targeted range of 500 miles.
For each average 1,000 lb. battery you need to mine 500,000 lbs. of material. These truck batteries are nearly three times the size of a typical car battery, meaning that for one of these trucks, 1.5 million lbs. of mined material are necessary to manufacture each battery. Each one will include processing 75,000 pounds of brine for lithium, 90,000 pounds of ore for the cobalt, 15,000 pounds of ore for Nickel and 75,000 pounds of ore for the copper.
Definitely earth conscious vehicles.

Silly, the mining process is exactly the same.
