The bigger story in the article is how much debt Netflix is acquiring. They're giving comedians 50 million dollar deals and spending tons of money on some weird shite that not a whole lot of people are watching.

They're playing the long game. Given their huge market share, they just have to wait for a couple of the big networks to throw in the towel on their streaming services, then license up their best properties.

If they can get all of, say, CBS's best content if All Access folds and NBC's best content if Comcast's upcoming service folds...that's a hell of a lot of content. And all they have to do is maintain subscribers and wait.

I don't know anyone with CBS and the thought of Comcast offering a standalone stream is just . They literally have one of the most toxic names in business history, only remain profitable by monopoly, and are gonna ask people to spend another $10/mo on top of Netflix, Disney, Amazon, etc.

The article makes some points but it’s from a Forbes contributor. Forbes now just posts articles from random people with catchy headlines to get clicks. It’s basically an opinion piece.

Everyone has known forever that content providers would be pulling their stuff from Amazon, Hulu and Netflix and walling their stuff into their own paid streaming service. Disney is just the first big player to do it.

All they are doing is trying to get back the per subscriber fee they used to get from cable and satellite packages they have lost in the cord cutting era.

Instead of paying one bill for $175 to cable or satellite, they plan on you paying $10 a month to 17 different streaming services.

Disney can eat a dick.

I don’t have young kids anymore and I don’t care about Marvel.

I will stream The Mandelorian from some shady site out of the Ukraine and go about my da
Yep frick disney.

Look at the UFC and their bullshite deal with ESPN+ (owned by Disney), and how you can only order a PPV card through ESPN+. So you have to buy ESPN+ before you can even purchase an antiquated product (PPV). Talk about some bullshite.

No shite. Did anyone think it was factual? It’s a prediction in an investment magazine.

THis is why I thought their recent buyouts were getting close to needing more scrutiny. They will eventually bury the market and raise prices

Deoends if you want some adult content where it provoke you thoughts, maybe something raw and realistic, maybe something gritty and grimy.

Disney + is all wholesome kiddy shows or something that try to be dark and gritty but it is not.

Everyone is laughing but the fact is Netflix can’t possibly compete with Disney. And I am NOT a Disney fanboy.

I said this months ago.....Name 3 Netflix originals

Ok now name 15 Disney shows/movies

Netflix was first to market but Disney will crush them

We're going to end up back with 7 or 8 "channels" like in the late 80s by way of streaming services because they're all going to merge & scoop each other up.

Not in a ranking order:
Netflix
ABCDisnESPN+
NBCUniversal
Fox/FX/FXX
HBO
Showtime
AmazonPrime

If I'm 1 of the mega conglomerates I'm buying up BBC, HGTV, Hallmark, TBS/TNT, Bravo, A&E, Discovery, Primetime, etc. ASAP (I don't know who is currently owned by what megas-but if they aren't, I'm making those moves).

These stream services are going to basically recreate what we know as cable/satellite TV today, until they all continue to merge into just a couple of entities. Pricing will continue to drop below current cable/satellite rates then go back & ebb + flow.

Strap in. We're all just along for their corporate ride.

First, it really is not a zero-sum game. Second, it is really more of a Hulu vs Netflix than Disney+ vs Netflix. The reports indicate the more adult programming will end up on Hulu instead of Disney+. The market penetration pricing won't last long either. A lot of people already have both Netflix and Hulu. Many of those will probably add Disney+ since the plan is to bundle Hulu and Disney+ with savings.

Yea but what about all the money netflix invests in Netflix original titles. That's the stuff that people subscribe to them for, the stranger things and other titles. I like the documentaries personally. For disney to capture that business they will have to provide the same entertainment not just disney movies and disney channel shows.

So Long Netflix… Picture this… Disney puts a blockbuster like Avengers Endgame on its platform the same day it opens in theaters. After a few weeks it’s no longer in theaters. You can’t buy it. You can’t rent it. The only way to watch is to subscribe to Disney’s steaming service, Disney+.

That's the dumbest thing I've read today. Do you realize how much they make in theaters?

Hey, I'm all for it though. Just means I'll get my 4k encodes even sooner. This is part of the reason I pirate and refuse to give these morons money for even stuff I actually like.

First, I am not singling you out.

I have never understood the cavalier attitude of some people regarding stealing music/tv/film. Most of the ones I know that do I don't think would steal from Walmart, the grocery store or embezzle money from their employer. Are they making a moral distinction or is it just the chances of being caught and prosecuted? There are companies I don't like, and products/services that IMO are overpriced but I either buy them or don't using those facts to justify stealing them just doesn't enter my mind.

Nah, I dont justify it. It's fairly easy to do and it's also a challenge of sorts getting access to better and better sources. I dont feel guilty about it. The whole entertainment system is set up to screw the people who actually have the talent anyway. It's just one area where you can stick it to the mega-corps and they cant do much about it.
