I like netflix but they're slowly replacing studio content with "original" programming.
Some of that stuff is good but thats not all I want to see.

And Disney's low price will last a very short amount of time until they get their base inflated. It's up to the same as Netflix (if not higher) after that.

I have never understood the cavalier attitude of some people regarding stealing music/tv/film.
How is watching an illegal stream stealing?

I looked into this a while back when the UFC was making a big push to combat illegal streaming, and I couldn't find where simply watching an illegal stream is illegal.

1 month after getting Disney, the same folks who complain they can't find anything to watch on Netflix will complain they have watched everything they want to watch on Disney.

This isn't the end of the world for Netflix. Donald Duck? Mickey Mouse? How many Netflix members are going to bail to watch those two?

Plus the 6.99 price is cheap enough to have both without thinking about it. One less trip to Starbucks a month.

After a few weeks it’s no longer in theaters. You can’t buy it. You can’t rent it. The only way to watch is to subscribe to Disney’s steaming service, Disney+.

30 minutes after it's launched on Disney+, it'll be on iptorrents in 4k. Thanks Disney+!

What's going to happen more and more regularly with so many streaming services is households will flip back and forth on which services they subscribe to at a time.

For example now that GoT is over, cancel HBO and subscribe to Hulu. Get caught up on the shows you want to watch and then cancel and resubscribe to HBO or Showtime when they have a couple popular shows, etc etc.

I’m curious how this will work. Disney is maybe 1/3rd of what my kids watch maybe less. Are they going to have EVERYTHING disney owns there? All the Disney movies? I’m guessing it’s going to be like 3 months at a time and then new movies will rotate?

My kids watch PBS kids stuff, Nick/ JR stuff, and some of the other cartoons.

Everyone says $6.99 is nothing but I disagree. It’s not nothing when you have cable/Sling/ satellite plus Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, etc.

I like competition for sure, but I think they will eventually canabalize themselves and some of the providers will buy the others.

You know they have a stake in HULU, right?

ETA:

I read they will eventually have a premium package that is Disney, ESPN, and HULU.

ESPN+ lost 136 million in Q1

Bob Iger wants to bundle ESPN+, Hulu, and Disney+ so customers can have all 3 and at a discount. Hulu is yet to be profitable as well but seems to be gaining a lot of steam with their Hulu Live TV option.

Streaming remains a money-losing business for Disney and they need to figure this out. ESPN as a whole is a huge money loser for them because of the absurd contracts they signed with the NBA, NFL, and MLB where on NBA and MLB they were bidding against nobody but themselves. If current trends continue ESPN will have to be subsidized by Disney by 2023 it will no longer be profitable. Looks like one option to save money is EPSN getting out of MLB completely. They also are going to have to bid less when the NBA contract comes up again they way overpaid.

Yeah. One thing that will/dis hurt ESPN is each league will (MLB/NHL has already installed) start their own subscription network. Such a better model. When I can get SEC sports as a stand alone product, I will cancel my Directv.

Netflix has “mature” content. Doubt Disney plans to go that route

Assimilate now. Netflix will be fine, they have done exceptionally well with their originals, and they’ll survive on those, but you better believe they’re about to get that arse pounded flat. Disney’s content is unrivaled. Once they start making Marvel series or Star Wars series similar to Netflix originals, that’s when Netflix needs to worry.

Netflix has burned a lot of customers up with their price raises, and you are going to see a huge exodus when Disney+ launches. And if they don’t fold, our Disnatic overlords will just buy them.

As long as Netflix can put out good original content they will be fine.

Well their problem is they are incurring loads of debt to explore and put out all this original content. I've read this in other articles before, and the consensus is that if it doesn't pan out, it could spell the end for Netflix. Alongside other options for streaming.

Meh, Netflix learned a long time ago to distance themselves from the studios and create their own content.

- House of Cards
- Ozark
- Black Mirror
- The Last Kingdom
- The OA
- Peaky Blinders
- Stranger Things

Plus many more that I'm not as familiar with. They also have the best streaming technology. A lot of providers have tried to invent their own Netflix and failed. Few have had anywhere near the success that Netflix has had. I think that the model you are describing would only hurt Disney from making as much as they could from their content.
