The state constitution and other governmental red tape really only allows budget changes in certain areas, mainly education and healthcare
And they did this on purpose. They knew this would hurt to cut, so people would fight tooth and nail to not cut it. They protected everything that people could cut and not feel guilty about.

Eddie Rispone wanted a constitutional convention...

That’s a cute thought.
In my life times taxes have gone up, then down, then up, then down, now up. They will go back down. I am a pragmatist.

It will help. However, like anything to do with LA govt. those amounts too will be preyed upon by thieving politicians and crooked people with connections.

I’m all for legalization, it we heard this same shite for video poker, the lottery, sports betting, and how many other things?
It shouldn’t be legalized so we can tax it, it should be legalized because it’s a fricking plant.

Well the issue is the people collecting those taxes in Louisiana. Also all of those things except the lottery are mostly still illegal in LA
Other states, like Texas, know what to do with tax money besides just pocket it.

I meant more federally than just state specific

As much as I wish this was true I don’t think it will be for a predetermined time frame. You and I both know that if the government gets a tax hike because of this it will NEVER go back down

We need a state Constitutional convention to replace EWE's flawed document
The big problem with this is, look who would be responsible for drafting the new constitution.

Naw, the politicians all own their homes. They'll put the burden on the common man.

I just got a new job within a day of applying. Thank God for licenses and being essential.

You think Louisiana is the only state government that's going to push for tax increases to make up for lost revenue during this? LA will be one of many.
If you own property in Orleans Parish, prepare your anus and consider selling if you can. You're going to get hit with state tax increases plus the city of New Orleans is so heavily dependent on tourism revenue for their budget, but Destroya is cancelling all the major events that are tourist draws for the rest of the year. NOLA's city budget is going to be FUBAR

They can't retroactively increase personal income taxes; only for the next FY.

With the way the State Constitution limits what the legislature can do, it will be impossible to cut enough to balance the budget
Can you give some examples of SPECIFIC cuts the constitution prevents and give a dollar value to each cut so that you can support these claims?
You looking to cut driver licenses fees and gas taxes or something?
