Interesting. I’m in my mid 40’s and quite successful. My path did not include any of your advice.

Also, interesting.
I am 60 and highly successful financially. My path matched everything OP suggested.

4) Always trust advice from the internet. The denizens there have your best interests at heart and would never steer you wrong.

I’m 43, my life is pretty good and I did none of this.

Look, if you’re 20, some intentionally and focus is a good thing but you don’t need to be “workforce David Goggins” to set yourself up well. Good Lord man

At least employer match. You can use the rest for a self managed IRA that can acquire real estate.

Good advice BUT OP also is directing his advice to people under 30.

Would take some time to fund an IRA to that extent.

4) don’t take this dip shits advice.

Here’s what you should do:

Graduate high school.

Get a job or go to school for an advanced degree (you can do both).

Don’t have kids til you’re married.

This will succeed damn near 100% of the time.

meh. Op’s advice is mostly stupid but you’ll need a little more than this to get ahead these days

This is absolutely terrible advice.

While there is some good advice in here a majority is not. I don't think working your life away and spending no time with family is really what the generation under 30 wants because they've seen that it does not produce happiness or fulfillment.

Congratulations. You just won the award for dumbest poster of the week.

Saving up as much money as you can and spending as little as possible might have helped 40-50 years ago, but now that isn’t enough if you want to live comfortably.

Fricking boomers. This is why my generation hates y'all.

and this:

quote:

Don't get a law degree or an MBA or any Masters from a non-elite university. Only from top schools.

and this:

People will try to talk you out of working this hard. They are either too lazy or too stupid to achieve, so they will try to bring you down to their level. For the sake of yourself and your family, don't settle. Work your arse off.

I said succeed, not get ahead. That employment could be a teacher for 40 years. Probably won’t make the 1% gang, but if it’s your passion, that’s success. And raising kids in a 2 parent household is the single best indicator of future success.

My dad works probably 30 hours a week at his age today. 40 hours while we were growing up. Had 6 kids. Spent all weekend with us, got home every day for dinner. Took us on at least one big vacation a year. Went camping, hiking, or hunting during the year. Brought us to mass every Sunday. He would do the daddy-daughter shopping trips with my two sisters.

He is going to retire in a year or two. Has all the money he needs, and then some.

All his children grew up to be (or are growing up to be) straight, traditional conservative men and women. All of us are happy, and love spending time with each other. We don't rebel by turning trans/atheist/liberal/et al.

2 of us at are LSU, and drive down every weekend to go see our family.

One is in Austin, another in Houston, and they both try to get down to visit every other month.

That's winning at life. Frick this OP.

You started your own business, bought a house, bought a car, invested in real estate, achieved a post graduate degree from an elite institution all paying cash? In your 20’s with zero debt?

The average US Male lives to 77.

Congrats on sacrificing 40 years of your life for a cool 17 while you're a limp dick gomer.

No one ever says on their deathbed, "I wish I spent less time with my family."

could you imagine being on your death bed and being like "if only I would've skipped out on vacationing with my family to work more."

I would never say this straight up. But I have told my kids to go above and beyond. When they've complained to me that Bobby Joe over there isn't doing what he should and nobody seems to notice, I've told them that I promise...someone is noticing. When they are working and think nobody sees they work hard and do everything asked of them and more...somebody notices. When their coworker always doesn't do stuff and tried to leave early...somebody notices. When it comes time for promotions or layoffs, it will be noticed and mostly, that has proven true.

gender affirming care for the kids isn’t cheap and isn’t always covered by health insurance!
