You should factor those things in when negotiating your raise yearly or find a new job.
Its dumb to say that everything (housing, groceries) going up means you make less when the reason you earn what you do is because those things have gone up the past 100+ years. If those costs were the same as they were in the 60s youd be paid what people were paid in the 60s.

Really, I find a higher minimum wage (requiring their employers to pay them money) to be better than having the taxpayer fund the low income workers via welfare payments. I'm not sure why so many conservatives oppose higher minimum wage.

All minimum wage laws are terrible ideas. All it does is keep small businesses from forming that otherwise would have and prevent teens from getting jobs.
It also conditions people not to be self reliant and negotiate their own pay.

There isn't much evidence consensus that raising the minimum wage actually provides any significant reduction in welfare use or cost to the taxpayer as it isn't a single factor equation.
So, your premise itself is a false one and generally answers your secnd statement.

I dont know why everyone in this thread isn't saying this same thing.
I have 14 year olds making $10/hour at park and rec.
I have 16 year olds making $12.50/hour at restaurants and $16/hour teaching swim lessons.
I have a 17 year old making $16/hour at an internship.
18 year olds are bringing in $120 to $220 a night waiting tables (4 to 6 hours).
Minimum wage in Georgia is $7.25, I think. Raising the minimum wage hurts people with little to no job experience (the people who need jobs the most).

If the low end average in Louisiana restaurants is $12 and you raise that to $15, everything will cost more.
It doesn't really change things for low earners and just makes everything more expensive for everyone.

It's a safety net that doesn't really affect employers anymore. They pay more because the market demands that they do. Still, people attack min wage as if it's actually dictating the market.

I used to be against raising minimum wage until I was talking with two friends of my brothers who were unemployed. They kept applying for jobs that started at $18 an hour. I asked why so high. They both said that was the breakeven dollar amount to go back to work.
Then they told me all what the government gave them. $366 a week in unemployment and $400 a month for food. Bith 9f those along with free Healthcare kept them from working.

Minimum wage makes it illegal for 2 consenting individuals to agree to terms of work.
If your friend is only worth $15/hour, then $18/hour makes him permanently unemployed.
It sounds like your friend probably needs to develop work skills. Lower pay could build up those skills. Or lower pay could help pay for the schooling or certifications to earn that $18+ per hour.

Why is that crazy?
Businesses do not need politicians to tell them what wage attracts and might maintain good workers for a particular job.
The minimum wage should be zero. Let two consenting adults decide what the wage is.
