The only reason you’re more secure beyond security than in the check in area is because MOST people aren’t willing to test their luck and follow TSA’s rules.
However, they’re useless and people like this (or much worse) easily exploit their gaps every day.

That’s simply the maximum penalty allowed by statute. The only people who get that have extensive criminal histories when the facts of the case are particularly egregious.

He should be let off on account that non of these airlines verified any of the information when he booked the flights and it took 6 years to catch him.
