Yes and no. The liver can regenerate even with 20-30% of the original tissue, so partial hepatectomies are performed, as well as total hepatectomies in the case of a transplant.

Right so there’s no isolated total liver removal. So it’s not mistaken one procedure for another like accidentally doing an appy instead of a chole. That can happen. This is a guy that so out of his mind that he doing shite that never happens. Has to be on drugs.

Quality control?

I had meniscus surgery years ago. Dr wrote on the rt knee, I had to sign paperwork on the rt knee.

Did not leave hospital with vasectomy.
(To my wife’s chagrin).

This picture reminds me of a medical school joke an attending surgeon once told:

Hey, why is the pancreas the sexiest organ in the body? Because it gives head to the duodenum, it's body to the stomach, and tail to the spleen

Someone should had made it clear to this doctor, that at this stage in your profession, you don't learn from your mistakes..... You pay for them.

Confusing one operation for another happens. Like operating on the wrong knee.

There are multiple fail safes and cross checks to ensure the right procedure is being done on the correct person.

in this case the doctor knew what the procedure was but is a goddamn moron.

As a retired anesthesiologist with 35 years experience, there is no plausible excuse for this to occur.

never went to medical school but would assume a surgeon would know the difference between a liver and a spleen. However, would that be criminal?

Not to derail the thread, but we’ve (America) have arrested cops for making what we perceive the wrong decision in mere seconds.

Kind of feel like a doctor removing the wrong organ in a relatively controlled setting it’s a bit out the box.

I mean technically you can have "wandering spleen" and your spleen can move around, but that is exceedingly rare.

Yes.

To say otherwise is to set the bar so low for medical practice as to render it completely inadequate.

Do we have fricking standards or not?

I honestly think there are people out there with falsified credentials. There had to be something else going on. No way in hell you can make that mistake.

Monetary is not the solution, nor is losing is license, for what seems to be criminal (in light of his well documented past mistakes).
