That's what I was told. Is that accurate?

"Flood" has different definitions in the insurance industry.

That doesn't make any sense. I don't know how a policy would possibly make such a distinction or carve out such an exclusion.

backflooding is still rising water

sewer backup is different than backflooding and would be on homeowner's policy if coverage is there.

It's going to get dicey with these mother frickers. They will do whatever it takes to not have to pay out. The wind-driven water debate after Katrina lasted for years.

That's dumb. Water backing up is flood as flood can get.

Everbody bitches about trial lawyers, often with good reason. But insurance companies are why they're necessary.

not sure why you are quick to jump down insurance companies neck right now when its highly likely OP is confused about something very simple.

While I know insurance companies are often a pain in the arse to deal with....I don't think that is correct. Flood insurance covered family members who had 7' of water in their home due to a back flow situation in Conroe area of Texas.

That was a competely different animal. Flood insurance is 100% reinsured by the fed gov. They assume all the risk. The only thing the insurance companies do is write and maintain the policies.

Well the actual adjusters have a financial incentive to give you as much of a claim as possible with regards to flood, so this would be unlikely to come from the adjuster.

Maybe he wasn't referring to this case in particular. You're telling me you have never personally delt with or heard horror stories about people dealing with insurance companies trying to wiggle their way out of a payment.....I sure have.

There are bad situations in all industries, but please let's ignore the millions of instances that insurance companies have made their customers whole after a loss or a death.

But why are insurance companies necessary?

The answer to all of these questions lies in human greed.

Insurance companies are necessary to pool risk because most families cannot afford to retain their risk. But sure greed. Jesus some of you people are idiots.
