All three professions are basically worthless with today’s technology and online tools yet they still stick around and tack on overhead and fees to a product we can easily access, and in most cases, get a better deal without them.

Also insurance agents. WTF do they do? I’ve always gone straight to the companies online website to aquire and their claims department if needed. I have never actually talked to my ‘agent’.

I have no idea how travel agents still exist, so they get my vote

Corporations and government employees. Who else is going to book their airfare and lodging? Then whatever time they have left, they are still worth it for many things like cruises, Disney, etc.

None, because some people will always want things done for them. That's why cable TV still exist, people like to push a button rather than do a little work.

For the most parts travel agents have been gone. Older people still use them I guess for out of country trips.

Realtors do have a purpose in some cases and there are some that are really good at what they do.

Car salesmen need to go away. We need to be able to buy directly from manufacturers. If not that, just have all prices online at dealerships and have a guy there to assist with test drives

Its annoying to have to pay a real estate agent but I dont have time to go let strangers in a house and deal with it.

Never used a travel agent but most work for free and just get free trips through resorts. Why wouldnt you use them?

Car Salesman - bought a car off of Carvana recently and it was painless.

Fast food cashier tenders.

Their jobs can be easily replaced by a much more efficient and cost-effective kiosk.

Hope you enjoyed paying the extra 20% in markup.

Carvana is an interesting concept but is not worth the upcharge IMO. I'd rather deal with an annoying salesperson.

I personally just buy used cars from private owners.

Exactly. Most people in here don't have a clue.

Wasn't at all. Very reasonably priced and delivered to my house.

Also time is money.

As much as I hate to say it, insurance agents won’t go away. The home and auto insurance agents will go away as the industry has commoditized those products but not the other guys for life and other financial services. Those guys are like cockroaches.

A friend of my wife has been a travel agent for 20 years. She said in the past 10 years ago almost exclusively books Disney trips. She says business is very good.

I've seen better prices on carvana than at dealerships.

states are obviously different but federal employees actually use a mostly automated system.

it sucks arse compared to a real person being able to do it in minutes, but it is automated.

I used a travel agent when we planned our anniversary trip. Very helpful and I am not taking the time to do the research.

I agree. But then again, my wife just used one to plan a trip to Europe. With young kids and both of us generally working long hours, it was worth the relatively small added expense to have someone take care of much of the planning

Realtors (particularly if you are in the market to buy a home) are largely useless if you are willing to do the legwork to get market stats/info (which is easily available). On the seller's side, the one benefit they provide is to be at your home for showings if you can't constantly leave work during the day. Again, not significant benefits, but there is probably still a place for them. Plus, I think their is some sort of stigma against people trying to sell their home without a realtor. I had a neighbor try to sell his house FSBO for months without any luck. He finally hired a realtor and sold it within a week...at the same price he was asking for without a realtor.

Car salesman have a strong lobby. They aren't going anywhere for a while. State governments are going to make sure they stay in business

Anyone stupid enough to still be paying for travel agents deserves to have money taken from them
