Anyone done this and had any luck? My fiancé lost her job and got an email back saying she didn’t qualify or some shite. Anyone have experience filing yet and what’s going on? Any feedback would be great.

Does she have any underlying conditions?

Helped my son file last week after getting laid off due to the virus. Process was a little cumbersome online (mainly so slow due to load and dumb questions) but got it done. First check hit his account yesterday. One tip, try to fill the electronic stuff out at night it went much faster. Had started during the afternoon but site kept freezing up.

I can only speak for Washington State, but I was laid off two weeks ago and filed that afternoon before it really started going sideways up here. Process was painless and took about half an hour. I saw my first unemployment benefit deposit this past Tuesday (my first week did not count as I worked that week and exceeded the threshold). My weekly claims are submitted online, and they do make you input which employers you have contacted that week. Down to name, website, position title, blood type, favorite color, shoesize, etc.

But I have six months worth of benefits to help me get back on my feet. Fortunately I had an interview on Monday and follow up phone call yesterday with the hiring manager, that went fantastic. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Was she a part time employee? New job?

She should have got a reason why she didn't qualify.

OP you need to be more specific for people here to be able to help you.
Better off calling the state. But I'm going to take a wild guess here and say the wait times on the phone are insane right now.

The site has been crashing and the phone lines tied up for hours.

I did eventually get through, but I found a new job in the meantime.

I filed last week & got my first deposit. It’s practically nothing but whatever. Will buy groceries with it

Why did she lose her job?

She had two jobs. Lost both. She was a 1099 employee for both

I filed and found it very simple. I’m furloughed until further notice. Money was in my account Wednesday morning. But it was the measly Louisiana benefit as the federal part $600 hasn’t been added to it yet and there’s no telling when it will. I’ll just assume it take 6 weeks and if I get sooner great.

This, if she filed in Louisiana using laworks.net, she should have a message in the system stating why she did not qualify and she should have the ability to file an appeal.

1099 means that she was a contractor and not an employee. She worked for herself and would be the one responsible for paying into unemployment insurance. Yeah, the system sucks.

Probably the reason. While the CARES act did expand unemployment to gig workers/independent contractors, there's a tighter restriction on who qualifies, as I understand it.

Additionally, some states are not processing 1099 related unemployment claims yet.

Depending on how she is set-up, if you desperately rely on her income, she can potentially apply through the SBA for loan assistance to help cover expenses, of which a portion may be eligible for forgiveness (the rest is a 5% loan).

What Landmass said is true.

She is considered an independent contractor.
