Nice try.

Progs have been trying since the 60s to get white people to stop having kids.

Just pointing out that there are many really good humans that existed on this planet that never became parents.

Considering all the Catholics on this site...I figured she was a good example to use. But you make a valid point.

And just because someone has selfish reasons for not wanting to become a parent...doesn't make them a horrible person. They may be selfish in that aspect of their life but selfless and give to society in other ways.

Calling someone selfish for choosing not to have kids is really bizarre.

Everything you just stated was from a point of personal gain, or what you get out of it, but let’s be clear here, there are millions of selfish POS human beings who have kids and neglect them for their own POS agendas. Our current society in large part is a mirror reflection of all of that. Having kids does not mean you aren’t just as capable of being a selfish POS.

Having an irreplaceable connection with your child and them having that with you is not a personal gain.

The difference in those people is they didn't want kids to begin with, they are just too fricking dumb to prevent them.

I didn't say that at all.

People who have kids in their 30's have a base for comparison. People who have kids in their young 20's before ever really having money don't really know what it's like to have have money and freedom without kids.

We don't have kids yet, and it's pretty awesome. We plan on trying for kids in the next couple years though. We're still young, my wife is in her 20's and I'm in my early 30's.

I think many of these parents just don't have the capability to see past their emotional response to this and think rationally as to why someone wouldn't want the same life they chose.

I know it seems like voluntarily childless people are portrayed as assholes on here all the time but that isn't what I see in my own personal experience. I've never had my friends that don't want kids brag about the great reasons why they aren't parents. They aren't smug about it. They are just living their lives...the way they want to.

Pure selflessness. You get nothing out of it huh?

Not true at all. There are many people who have kids for personal reasons. Some for status, others because everyone else is having them and so they need to as well, others simply because they are searching for personal fulfillment, and others for a pay check.

You inferred it.

I am ENJOYING MY LIFE. And who likes it or doesn't like it means nothing to me. Having money and free time to do what I WANT is great. Can't help that your so jealous of me and others like me.

Oh boy, this is a really, really dumb argument. Even by OT standards.

agree

Not wanting kids at all is definitely weird, but i don’t see what being “selfish” has to do with it

People used to tell me this bullshite lie all the time. I’m almost 40 and don’t feel any different than I did when I was 20. It doesn’t change. Either you’ll have kids or they’re just not for you.

People have been telling me for 10 years. I still have plenty time to have some grand epiphany, but I'm coming up on 30 and still not interested.

Nothing against them. Just isn't in the cards for me.

All of your reasons are valid points, but temporary. Kids grow up and all the things you mentioned, I will be able to do again.

I'm not saying it's going to happen with you but the people I've known that went through that stage were in at least their late-30's/early-40's when they realized it might be too late. No reason to worry about it when you're still in the prime years. Again, not saying you, just people in general.
