In a week, both of my kids are going to be out of the house and it's bittersweet. Great to see them both gaining independence but sad they are not around.
3 of mine are out (well two are still in college). I cried like a baby each time we moved them out. I still have a junior and frosh in HS at home. Older one drives the younger to school and most practices so I don't have to drive much which is def very nice. My overall emotion about this stage of life is it's more depressing than exhilarating although not having to drive and pickup from every f'ing this is freedom enjoyed.

All the people trying to convince you what a joy children are......really just sound like they are trying to convince themselves.

With all the back to school talk, just realized how great it is not having kids. Don’t have to worry about picking up or dropping off anyone from school. Can leave and take a spontaneous trip without finding a babysitter. Can go out to eat/drink without a baby sitter. No one to take care of when I get home. Nobody asking me for an allowance.

Feels great to be kid free

You upset a lot of people with this post

To me, that sounds really empty and sad.

Ok. For you and what you want. It's what I've craved my entire life.

And don't take it so literal. I have friends over everyday and many interactions.

Just all on my terms.

Sorry you feel that way.

I feel that my purpose is to try and strive to be as Christ like as possible and see God's plan in my life while I'm on this Earth...and then be with Him when I'm not.

And I'm so far from perfect that just means I still have a long ways to go.

By your logic you are saying people like Mother Teresa failed at life.

Kids are great, but I can’t help but feel really grateful that I don’t have to be responsible for raising kids in this environment and especially educate them, feed them, and steer them around positive influences for their lives. I don’t envy that responsibility in the least.

One of the biggest problems in our society is people having children that are incapable of developing them into functional adults. We have too many people having kids that shouldn't.

I have friends with a 6yr old. I'm her "Uncle" as they have no real extended family.

I worry about her in this day and age and I'm older than her parents. So just talking with them about trying to raise her and the things she already knows freaks me out

This was kind of the feeling my ex and I had. Am I really doing a kid a disservice by bringing them into this world at this time? It's a pretty fricked up place right now. I know it's safer than ever, yadda, yadda. I'm just not sure.

why bother? china already dictates one-child and when little girls are born the parents kill them or adopt them off to the US because they want their one-child to be a boy.

seems like they're already doing thanos' work

I work, I do good making money. And being single why in the hell would I even fathom having a kid now or anytime soon? That's as irresponsible as hell. And if I or a future spouse couldn't be home with that kid especially in the first couple years with it all the time, no way. I would never dream of putting a kid in daycare...ever. It's not like a kid is a car or house and the newness wears off after a few weeks or months.. its a human being. And I for one enjoy my work and my off time dong what I WANT. What I take offense is people who have kids trying to throw shade at us who don't. If you got kids...fine.. if your happy fine. If you folks can't get over the fact that some of us are perfectly happy without kids and probably never want any of em, oh well..that's your stupidity.

all these people who "love" being single would become pussy-whipped in a thanos-second if a female gave them the time of day.

Most women do want kids. It's part of the deal. My ex was the rarity.

Feels better when you have kids raise them and they go to college and never come home.

Agreed. Particularly when they hit about mid 30s and don't have any yet. Obviously there are exceptions.
