I don't get it. They should be move the BAC acceptable level higher, but punish the frick out of the drunk morons who are actually a threat to society.

One beer is around 0.02

After one hour your bac is back to zero

So 0.05 is about three beers in one hour
My actual studies (legit and over three years) showed me that 3 beers puts me right around 0.08 BAC. I'm 5'11 185, so TIFWIW. There's no speculation or guessing on that either and regular beer drinking speed (maybe 3 every hour or 1.5hrs)

12 hours for 12 beers? (Assuming they are light domestics)

shite, I wouldn't even have caught a hint of a buzz

I know. It's asinine logic but even the goddamn president sees fit to use it when convenient.

Fck this!

I think the BAC should be raised. I also think the penalties should go up considerably though, especially for multiple convictions.

Texting and driving is such a huge problem, and I'd guess causes at least 60% of wrecks, yet nobody wants to fix it. Yeah, it's technically illegal, but the cops will only enforce it if they feel like stopping someone for a DWI that isn't swerving.

I have no problem with this.

I'd also add the following:

1st DUI = One Year in Jail. No ifs, ands or buts.
2nd DUI = Two Years
3rd DUI = Six Years
4th DUI = You aren't ever getting out of jail. Ever.

I'm biased, though, because two of my daughters best friends were killed by a drunk driver back in May.

People that drink and drive are just idiots.

EDIT: That's why it's a good thing I don't make laws. I'm biased, not practical and draconian on this. But I'm also not stupid, and realize that it isn't even remotely possible or fair.

I'd rather them bump it up to .1 and have mandatory breathalyzer that won't start the car if you blow .1 or higher. Seems fair to me

So you want to lower it, making it easier for cops to frick people that arent even close to being a danger to society, and then have them spend an entire year in jail. frick. YOU.

At least this targets an actual problem, as opposed to gun control.

It's curious the NTSB is arguing for more restrictive drinking laws, when it was they who released the study proving texting and driving is exponentially more dangerous than drinking and driving.

That tells me they haven't figured out how to turn texting and driving penalties into a cash cow yet.

Of course they do. The DWI-fine cash cow has diminished over the past few years, and they are losing revenue. Need more tickets, more arrests, and more fines. 'Murica, yeah!!
