I'm no economists, but what do businesses do when the incur additional expenses?
Pass it onto consumers.
Pass it onto consumers.

These assholes don’t realize that oil runs this country. You’d be hard pressed to find something in your home that didn’t start from a barrel of oil or relied on a barrel of oil on manufacturing. Killing the oil industry kills our economy in latent ways. I’ve never been so disappointed with politicians (both sides) as I am now. And we’re going to ask Saudi Arabia for oil??!! It’s not a war on oil it’s a war on American oil production and manufacturing

This is the 1st administration I can remember that has absolutely none in the inner circle who knows the oil business.

the only positive i can find with this potential tax is that we would almost overnight be free of Oweo from the OT.

When you're a hammer (democrat) all you see are nails (taxes).

They're either stupid or evil.
Stupid would result in decisions with occasional positive outcomes, random successful one-offs.
So where's that leave us?

FedGov weighs 21% oil profit tax....to blunt inflation.
I have an honest question for our resident OT Democrats. This isn’t a troll. I honestly want to hear your thoughts. What I want y’all to help me understand is how this tax on oil profits will bring down inflation. Walk me through the thought process that leads to this tax bringing down inflation.
TIA.

Newsflash: If negative oil prices and the constant attack by this administration and environmental groups didnt kill off the oil industry... then >$100 oil and increased taxes sure as hell wont.

Big Oil raises prices 21% due to oil profit tax
I'm no mathematician, but they would have to raise it higher than 21%, because the 21% they raise it would be included in the 21% tax.

it'll never "kill" the industry, as it's essential to everything we consider "life" since the industrial revolution.
It'll make everything way more expensive, distorting the prices of everything.

Most large integrated oil companies would start raising prices on non “in your tank” products. Things like plastics and internediates. In the end it causes the consumer to open their wallets wider. An example albeit an unpleasant one would be the cigarette industry after the sin tax and law suits. A box of smokes aren’t 2.13 anymore.
