Fear Of Flying Subreddit - What's the OT's position?

r/fearofflying Incident Megathread
I've always been a hesitant flyer, as my mom was very afraid of airplanes. As I grew older and flew more and more, the fear lessened. Most of the time now, the most infuriating aspect is everything that comes along with flying economy (definitely not an OT baller).
Everytime there's a crash anywhere in the world people on the subreddit start to spiral. I get it, I remember being scared shitless my first time flying.
What's everyone's thoughts on here? Much different demographic than Reddit. Would you be more afraid of flying if you were in South America or Eastern Europe?

I would get on a plane this morning if I knew I was going to a cool place.

With this accident, the US is averaging under 5 deaths a year on commercial airliners over the last 15 years.

I hate flying. I’m nervous just about the entire time in the air.
And I say that as I’m flying from Albuquerque to Houston later today.

Yeah, we’re actual people. Reddit is >70% bots at this point. Seriously.

Eastern Europe, yes
Anywhere in the west, Middle East, South America, or SE Asia I’d have zero issues

Why? Are you nervous driving?

Like most of reddit, mental illness and autism

When it's your day to go, it's your day. Could be a plane, car, falling down stairs, stroke..........
I'll still fly.

That's a fun takeoff and landing, avoiding the Sandia Mountains.

I've been in a (private) plane crash and survived. What the odds of it happening twice?

Surviving or it happening. I’d say low, and extremely low

Something about being in control for me and being on the ground makes driving fine even knowing there is a greater risk.

You would have zero issues flying in the Middle East?? That’s where I would have my biggest concern
Posted on 1/30/25 at 7:36 am to Odysseus32
I don’t like but do it whenever I have to. Not sure I want to do more than 5 hrs unless I’m given a horse tranquilizer.

I've flown in Cessna 150's and 767's.
Taking a BE-20 up today.
When it's your time to leave this world, that's when you leave.
Reddit is a cesspool of idiots and conspiracy freaks
I'm more concerned about driving on I 10

Did those people talk about the 100s of wrecks yesterday that killed people?

I definitely have an irrational fear of flying, which has gotten exponentially worse since I've had (3) kids. Takeoff is the worst for me, and my paranoia usually subsides while we're at cruising altitude.
The times I'm the most anxious are when my wife and I are flying together, without the kids. Strangely, I'm least nervous when we're all flying together.
